Met Gala 2025: Best and Worst Looks

Best and worst dressed lists are actually a bit outdated. But when the celebrities walk up the legendary Met Gala staircase, we can’t help but pull out our mental notepad and eagerly award points. Find out who embodied the Black Dandy from head to toe and whose looks made us frown in our not-too-serious collection of tops and flops.

Top

These stars and their stylists have really taken the motto and dress code to heart

Teyana Taylor in Ruth E. Carter
Opulent, dramatic and full of hidden symbols: The singer and actress created a look with costume designer Ruth E. Carter that set the bar high – especially because she was one of the first to climb the stairs.
Rihanna in Marc Jacobs
She shows off her baby bump and one of the best looks of the evening.
Colman Domingo in Valentino
He is a dandy through and through. Underneath the blue robe was another outfit that was well worth seeing.
Pharrell Williams in Louis Vuitton
100,000 pearls, designed by himself: As simple as the look may seem – it will be difficult to top it.
Ayo Edebiri in Ferragamo
Sentimentality suits her perfectly: the actress’ bespoke look is a tribute to the dandies in her life, namely her father and grandfather.
Janelle Monàe in Thom Browne x Paul Tazewell
She has transformed herself into a Black Dandy. That’s all that needs to be said.
Jodie Turner Smith in Burberry
The hat! The coat! The shoes! Everything fits here.
Damson Idris in Tommy Hilfiger
Dramatic outfit reveals, stepping out of a look and drawing all the attention to yourself for a moment: That’s what the Met Gala is all about.
Doja Cat in Marc Jacobs
Doja Cat once literally appeared as a cat at the Met Gala. What remains is a bit of animal print, the courage to create sculptural silhouettes and the talent for an unforgettable look.
Doechii in Louis Vuitton
We were already convinced that the Grammy winner would slay at her very first Met Gala.
Bad Bunny in Prada
If we had to define the modern Black Dandy, Bad Bunny in this look would be the first example. I wonder what’s in this bag?
Chappell Roan in Paul Tazewell
Pink Pony Girl goes Dandy. What at first glance looks as if Miss Roan has ignored the dress code, fits perfectly at second glance. The suit fits and reflects her (stage) personality. It was clear that the pop queen would go all out for her first Met Gala appearance.
Diana Ross in Ugo Mozie
She designed her dress with her son and Nigerian designer Ugo Mozie – the gigantic train shows nothing less than her family tree.
Willy Chavarria and Maluma in Willy Chavarria
Designer Willy Chavarria appears in pachuco style: the dandy look from the thirties and forties, which was characterized by Latinos and blacks. Colorful and unique – the dress code was all about picking up on history and translating it into his own style.
Laura Harrier in Zac Posen
Tailored like a suit, soft and flowing like a dress. That’s what is meant by “Tailored for you”.
André 3000 in Burberry
A modern black dandy can also carry a piano around on his back. This is not just art, but a reference to the new EP “Piano Sketches”, which the rapper has just released.
Charli XCX in Ann Demeulemeester
Brat girl Charli is also one of those who understood the dress code and incorporated her own personal style into her styling.
Emma Chamberlain in Courrèges
Some still see her as nothing more than the most relatable Youtuber, but Emma Chamberlain proves once again that she also has a real flair for fashion.
Cynthia Erivio in Givenchy
“Tailored for you” was the dress code: Cynthia Erivio’s signature style definitely shines out here.
Nicki Minaj in Thom Browne
Mixing a suit and a dress seems to be a good recipe to realize the Black Dandy style.
Walton Goggins in Thom Browne
We love men in skirts and we love Walton Goggins. Both together? A dream.
Ms. Lauryn Hill
It’s hard to believe that this was Miss Lauryn Hill’s first appearance at a Met Gala. Trend color butter yellow? Check. Proper drama? Check.
Whoopi Goldberg in Thom Browne
Coat, dress, suit – combined into one piece.
Coco Jones in Manish Malhotra
Among the countless European designers, the actress and singer opted for a well-known Indian designer.
Lupita Nyong’o in Chanel
If you couldn’t imagine what the motto and dress code meant until now: One look at this look and everything becomes crystal clear.
Zoe Saldana in Thom Browne
Have you noticed? If you go for Thom Browne, you have a good chance of being one of the best-dressed guests.
Demi Moore in Thom Browne
Simple at first glance, then ingenious: Demi Moore turned up as a tie – the essential black dandy accessory.
Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz in Moncler by Edward Enninful
Probably the only couple on earth that makes partner looks look cool.
Cardi B in Burberry
A suit is not just a suit. Cardi B knows that – and puts it into practice with bravura.

Flop

These looks have either missed the point – or are simply too boring.

Anne Hathaway in Carolina Herrera
Even if her look is supposed to be a tribute to André Leon Talley, the Black Dandy par excellence, it is too reminiscent of an office outfit.
Gigi Hadid in Miu Miu
A gold dress is actually a great gala look. But it could just be for any gala in any year – even the Josephine Baker reference is not clear enough.
Bee Carrozzini in Givenchy
Beautiful, but you have to look too hard to find the connection to the Met motto.
Heidi Klum in Vetements
Why so simple on the go? Her looks on Germany’s Next Topmodel are all more exciting.
Jenna Ortega in Balmain
A great dress that unfortunately looks more like space punk than dandyism.
Lorde in Thom Browne
We are delighted that Lorde has been resurrected just in time for Easter and has a new album in her luggage. Her Met Gala styling, on the other hand, doesn’t look at all lively.
Kim Kardashian in Chrome Hearts
More reminiscent of the Wild West than glamorous dandies.
Kylie Jenner in Ferragamo
Kim’s little sister doesn’t knock our socks off either.
Jeremy Allen White in Louis Vuitton
A normal black suit? The personal touch is missing here.
Paloma Elsesser in Ferragamo
She looks great as always, but the look is more reminiscent of flamenco than dandyism.
Megan Thee Stallion in Michael Kors Collection
We would have expected something more elaborate from her.
Sabrina Carpenter in Louis Vuitton by Pharrell
Perhaps we’ve seen the pop princess in glittery outfits too often on her never-ending tour, but this look feels too much like a costume and not enough like herself.
Pamela Anderson in Tory Burch
We love her new hairstyle. The sparkly dress, unfortunately, less so.
Sydney Sweeney in Miu Miu
Is supposed to be a tribute to the sixties and to actress Kim Novak – but if you don’t know that, you won’t be impressed by this ordinary evening dress.
Shakira in Prabal Gurung
Opulent and yet inappropriate. It seems as if the dress code was of little interest to her.

Vittoria Ceretti in Moncler by Edward Enninful
Too much ski slope, not enough dandy.

What was the exact theme of this year’s Met Gala? We have broken this down for you.
