“Belts distract the eye from a bloated tummy, a heavy-set upper body and all manner of sins.” Twiggy

Critics

Sometimes you have to open your mouth and shout. For example, when fashion labels engage in greenwashing, disguise their value chains or – let’s face it – have a profit-hungry douchebag at the top. Then, among others, the magazine Viscose has its say, a print title like ours, published by the International Library for Fashion Research in Oslo, which collects essays by people who put their criticism on paper, in black and white, because the written word is ultimately still the strongest. Viscose, “Issue 1”, ca. 30.- (www.printmatters.ch)

Attention!

This spring, we’ll be giving strobe lights and disco balls a run for their money when we dress up in sequined pieces. And that’s what we want, because hardly any other part screams for attention as much as the one covered with the reflective plates. Those who shy away from the limelight can accentuate their look with accessories such as bags or hats, and those who still opt for the total look are best off slipping into a dress or jumpsuit.

Inspired by tutus and the Bolshoi Theater, the Bolshoi Grace sunglasses from Silhouette are at least as graceful as a pirouetting prima ballerina. 23-carat gold enhances the additional cut-out temples, which reflect the lightness with which the dancers turn on their toes. Silhouette, “Bolshoi Grace”, from approx. 746.-.

Hissing

After the global tiger population reached a record low of 3,200 in 2010, the WWF intervened. Since then, the organization has been fighting together with governments for the preservation of the species and has now also brought the fashion label on board, whose symbol is the tiger. Kenzo is donating ten dollars for every part of the new capsule collection sold in order to achieve the goal of increasing the population of tigers to 6,400 by the end of 2022. Naturally, the tank tops, sweatshirts and hoodies (from around 130) made from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton show the tiger at its best. www.kenzo.com

Covered

We’re going full throttle at the top this season. Because headscarves are becoming the coolest items of the season. Scarves, turbans and the like offer sun protection and are also the best alternative to bucket hats, which – hand on heart – don’t suit everyone. A glance at the looks on the catwalk reveals that tone-on-tone combinations are particularly popular. So first put the outfit together and then look for the right headdress in the well-stocked rummage box. If you don’t feel like tying, a turban makes life easy for you.

Etro, cashmere scarf with print and embroidery effect, approx. 592.-
Gucci, headband with flora print made from organic silk twill, approx. 330.-

Open eyes

The Swiss platform Urbankissed is taking a stand against fast fashion and filling its online store with sustainable and ethically produced fashion. Recently, the hundredth brand was added to the portfolio, with a focus on European brands. Transparency is particularly important to founder Sophie Brunner, which is why she evaluates all the products in her range according to the specially defined Slow & Ethical Index and 16 standards. By clicking through, you can immediately see whether a T-shirt is actually made from recycled materials or has been produced ethically and ecologically. www.urbankissed.com

Snapper

If you want to store for cool fashion at good prices, the Zalando Fashion Lounge is the right place for you. However, the exclusive shopping club offers not only fashion, but also interiors and various accessories. An online shopping outlet that makes you happy! However, we shouldn’t take too long to choose our new favorite items: The shopping cart is not reserved, and if you wait too long, you’ll be left holding the bag. Everything else about the Zalando Fashion Lounge can be found here.

Friday

New angle

Actually, we should all be cycling more – or walking , although pedaling is more fun . With its folding bikes, the London-based company Brompton has been ensuring that today’s hipster’s favorite gadget also fits into small city apartments since 1975. In collaboration with the Zurich label Freitag, a bag has now been created that can be attached to the front of the bike with a magnet, making pedaling even more comfortable. The rucksack, which normally sits on your shoulders during the day, is turned 90 degrees when you ride home and clicked onto the Brompton bike. As you would expect from Freitag, the new front pack is made from used tarpaulins and the padded interior, which protects the laptop, for example, is made from recycled PET bottles. The new backpack is called F748 COLTRANE and will be available from 14. April 2021 to www.freitag.ch and in the Brompton and Freitag stores for approx. 390.- available.
