Every man retains a piece of the boy he once was – fascinated by superheroes, video games and a carefree attitude. This inner child also drives the desire to break with traditional dress norms. Because fashion has always been a gateway to self-expression. Jonny Johansson, the creative director and co-founder of Acne Studios, embraces this ethos in the Acne men’s spring/summer 2025 collection. Inspired by childhood nostalgia and an enthusiasm for comics, Johansson seamlessly combines childhood memories with sophisticated fashion for adults.
The Acne spring/summer 2025 men’s collection
The Acne SS25 men’s collection is a visual feast with colors ranging from fiery oranges and earthy browns to soft pinks and blues, punctuated by black in a variety of textures, silhouettes and design techniques. The fabrics are varied and range from fine wool suits to robust dyed pieces and knitwear to uniquely treated denim. The pressure and attraction of growing up, the formation of an identity: garments that look bleached, dyed or sprayed meet the symbols of adulthood – tailoring, fine wool, pinstripes. Comfort meets style with materials such as polar fleece and fluffy nylon, reminiscent of lazy pyjama days but with a fashionable twist. The collection includes wide-leg jeans paired with cozy tops, slim scuba-inspired shorts and tailored jackets that accentuate the waist. The collection plays with volume and layers, adding a touch of excitement.
Cool prints and graphics
Playful and cheeky prints and graphics dominate this collection. Slouchy shirts are printed with candy-colored superhero prints, while denim is adorned with key rings and belts. Airbrush and spray designs add a rebellious touch, complemented by snake prints and doodles. Artistic representations of DC’s female superheroes, such as Wonder Woman and Catwoman, appear unexpectedly on the clothing.
Shoes and accessories
Footwear makes a statement with heavy boots with metal accents, paint-splattered monk strap shoes and a favorite: the chunky, masculine, knee-high fold-over boot, reminiscent of the iconic Givenchy Shark Lock boot. This was originally introduced for women in 2012 and is now being reinterpreted for menswear. Accessories include stylish new bags, such as the newly invented bowling bag with superhero motifs.
Johansson has designed a collection that is both nostalgic and self-confident. The bold colors, unique prints and dynamic designs appeal to those who are not interested in quiet fashion, brand logos or bling-bling. The collection is aimed at anyone with a taste for quirky, unique looks.
