Helping hands – “Louis Vuitton Manufactures” book
There is more to a brand than the stylish shop windows, the polished doors and the accessories wrapped in tissue paper and cardboard that we proudly carry home. Where the industrious fairies do their work at Louis Vuittonis in the new plant “Louis Vuitton Manufactures” to see: From France to Switzerland to Italy and even Texas, there are ateliers where LV employees wave their magic wands over shoes or bags and painstakingly produce the items that later bring so much joy to the store. “Louis Vuitton Manufactures”, Assouline, ca. 95.-
Shocker! We want to see bright colors
At least every second coat: black, gray, blue. On buses and trains, the gloomy colors are omnipresent and the sight of the masses in the soft-boiled uniformity is not exactly what takes away our spring tiredness. Kick! Riot! Bang! We need loud colors, preferably neon, to wash our heads and turn tired faces into exciting trendsetters. Well, it doesn’t have to be a coat, but at the latest when the temperatures climb back into double figures, we want to see them flashing underneath, pink, neon yellow, blue or green. Take your pick.
The princess – Liisa Kessler takes over at Filippa K
Everyone steps down at some point, including the Queen. Filippa K founder Filippa Knutsson left the helm in 2019 and Liisa Kessler has now taken her place. Saint Laurent and Chloé are emblazoned at the top of Kessler’s CV, who knows exactly what she is doing as a trained dressmaker with a fashion design degree in her pocket. The first collection for the Swedish employer will be on show in June 2022.
More fantastic – Shopping network from PB 0110
Anyone who still hoards plastic bags like the chipmunks hoard their nuts is out of their depth. Better to get yourself a nice shopper that can hold apples, ravioli and chocolate in equal measure and can be stuffed into your coat pocket. Our favorite: the shopping net from PB 0110, inspired by Japanese minimalism. This beautiful piece is produced by the indigenous Khmu tribe in northern Laos, where nimble hands make each piece unique. The workers first produce a fiber from a native plant that grows as quickly as bamboo, which can then be reused and woven into the finished bag – it takes two weeks from clearing the plant to the end product, which can carry up to eight kilos despite its light weight of 35 grams. Chapeau! PB 0110, “KHMU1”, in natural and black, approx. 35.-, pb0110.de
Going south – Mr Marvis Shorts
Okay, it’s still a while until summer, but what does it matter? That leaves us all the more time to dream of balmy nights, delicious ice cream and a vacation in Sicily, because that’s where Mr Marvis is taking us in his campaign. A quick black dress, a spin in an Alfa Romeo and then a breath of sea air until the salt crumbles off our skin. Just the thing for this: the airy linen shorts, which are available in light gray to dark blue. A piece for the summer and always the right choice, regardless of whether we are at the wheel or in the passenger seat. Mr. Marvis, linen shorts, approx. 89.-, mrmarvis.de
Carbs – Rice Sneakers
Vegan sneakers are nothing new. However, the fact that the shoes are made of rice is actually worth reporting. Spanish shoe label Rice presents its latest sneaker, the Open21, whose outer sole is made from the white grains. Rice also uses vegan corn and apple leather as well as organic cotton and other recycled materials for its shoes to keep their footprints as small as possible. These cool things are produced in the EU and are available as Open21 in three color variants for approx. 140.- available. thericeco.com and thokkthokkmarket.com
Flamingo – heels to stand out
Some take it more seriously, others less, but fashion is never deadly serious. That’s the beauty of playing with clothes, of changing trends and emphasizing our body parts, sometimes with more, sometimes with less fabric. And so a heel doesn’t always have to be at a right angle, as a block or a cigar or in that run-of-the-mill shape that usually makes the asphalt shake. This season, our stilts are being transformed into lollipops, roses, bananas or crystals – whatever you like is allowed. The new heels are available in 15-centimeter heights and as mini-pumps, but be careful: if you already stalk like a giraffe in a classic shoe, you’ll make a monkey of yourself with a banana heel. Ferrari, made of laminated leather, approx. 783.-
