This month we look up to Chappell Roan, Burak Ates, Sam Kerr, Arthur Garros, Chilly Gonzales, Felix Nieder, Deva Cassel, Foday Dumbuya, Gillian Anderson and Mira Murati.
Chappell Roan – Red, White and Cruel
Three years ago, things looked bleak for Chappell Roan. Partner away. Record deal gone. Star producer gone. But now the singer is jumping into the top pop league at the second attempt. On her debut album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess”, she sighs with the narrative power of Lana Del Rey about waking up from the American Dream. But instead of sinking into a milkshake with the flavor “misery”, she also finds the sweet moments.

Burak Ates – Star in training
A natural talent is also developing: Burak Ates is currently attending drama school in Zurich. Four years ago, the Solothurn native scored a coup at his first ever casting: he was cast for the leading role in the film “Beyto” and impressed beyond the country’s borders as a homosexual secondo of Turkish origin. His next big role: brand ambassador and official face of this year’s Zurich Film Festival.

Sam Kerr – Bull’s eye
Down Under on top: The fact that Australia exceeded all expectations at the Women’s World Cup at home was also down to the team captain. On the green pitch, Sam Kerr showed why she is one of the best goal scorers in history and was the first female player to make it onto the cover of a FIFA video game in 2023. With such coups, she certainly won’t run out of chapters for the autobiographical children’s book series “Kicking Goals”.

Arthur Garros – Make-up Flex
Its skin is so smooth that it takes an entire science team in the New Mexico desert to microscopically detect its pores. Its glow even dazzles astronauts on the moon and will probably soon attract UFOs. It’s no wonder that skincare brands are clamoring for a collab with Arthur Garros. But the real highlight on the Belgian beau’s social media channels are his comedy clips with guaranteed laugh lines.

Chilly Gonzales – Piano with spicy
Neoclassical music and jazz come easily to him. He has written songs for Peaches and Jane Birkin and played keys for Daft Punk and Drake, among others. And sometimes he also raps as a sock puppet as part of the Puppetmastaz. The past few years have hardly produced a more dazzling and funnier exceptional pianist than Chilly Gonzales. So it’s no wonder that we are puckering our lips for the Canadian’s new solo album “French Kiss”.
The current album and all concert dates for Chilly Gonzales can be found here.
Felix Nieder – Unisexy
For Felix Nieder, love knows no boundaries. And fashion has no gender. In 2022, he walked the catwalk at Berlin Fashion Week in a wedding dress and with a “Love is Love” sign. Since then, he has been presenting women’s and men’s clothing. Or simply: clothes. This has made the German one of the most sought-after models in his home country. The 30-year-old now describes his often rocky career in his new autobiography “When my gay self died”.
Felix Nieder keeps you up to date with everything that’s going on with him on his website and Instagram channel.
Deva Cassel – Freckles
If EuroMillions were to organize a genetic lottery, she would have hit the jackpot: Deva Cassel, daughter of Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel, is currently causing quite a stir as a model on the catwalks and in front of the photo lenses in Italy. She also made her acting debut at the Locarno Film Festival in the literary adaptation “La bella estate”. A beautiful summer? A self-fulfilling prophecy with Deva Cassel in the picture.

Foday Dumbuya – Crowning Moment
England and Ireland, for once united in admiration: King Charles himself presented Foday Dumbuya with this year’s “Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design”. Shortly afterwards, the founder of the fashion label Labrum launched a capsule collection featuring Dublin Guinness beer. African cuts and designs are reminiscent of their creator’s homeland – Sierra Leone – and underline Labrum’s inspiring motto: designed by an immigrant.

Gillian Anderson – Queen of Screen
She hunted aliens, analyzed Hannibal Lecter and played Margaret Thatcher’s hairstyle in “The Crown”. Gillian Anderson has been captivating us for 30 years – whether on the big screen or on TV. There will soon be a long-awaited reunion on that screen: For the final season of the Netflix hit “Sex Education”, the two-time Golden Globe winner will once again take on the leading role as a promiscuous sex therapist for the final session.

Mira Murati – Bots Blitz
Is there life after the code? Mira Murati is catapulting our computers into completely new spheres: As Chief Technology Officer of OpenAI, she is driving the development and everyday implementation of programs such as ChatGPT and Dall-E. At the same time, the native Albanian urges caution and advocates the regulation of AI. After all, the title of her film biography should not one day be “Terminator – The Early Years”.
