“Fashion is about sex.” Vivienne Westwood
Self-help
Sometimes all you need is a signpost to get you back on the right path. In the case of the Berlin project PEOPLE, it is fashion that gives young people struggling with addiction, mental illness or homelessness a new focus. Together, they create collections for men and women by hand in Berlin, whereby the designers find the protection they need at this stage of their lives under the anonymity of the label name PEOPLE. All proceeds from the sale will go back into the project, which is already presenting its fifth edition this spring. The limited edition collection THE VOID is available online at store.peoplepeoplepeople.de.
Chewing gum
Pastel colors in spring are about as revolutionary as down jackets in ski season. We admit it: nothing about this trend is groundbreaking. And yet we still fall for the sweet nuances of mint green, light blue, lemon yellow or piggy pink. Why? Because we have to be strong, always, everywhere, all day long and especially at this time. From time to time, we are allowed to take off our fighter’s mask and dress in light and airy clothes that make us feel weightless.

Meltdown
2020 was a special year. And this is also true for designer Yvonne Reichmuth, whose YVY label and leather accessories never fail to delight. Behind the appearances of Kristen Stewart in a hot mesh skirt or Taylor Swift with a cool hand-piece, however, there is one thing above all: work. Reichmuth is now offering an insight into her studio in Zurich at the beginning of the year in the form of a book, the proceeds of which will go to the Fachstelle Frauenhandel und Frauenmigration. The organization supports and advises migrant women affected by violence throughout Switzerland. Yvonne Reichmuth proves that fashion can do much more than just look beautiful with this look deep inside YVY. And so “Core” contains photographs of her team and the pieces that have been created under corona conditions over the past year, as well as questions that have accompanied the designer. If you would like to buy the book in the YVY studio or online at www.yvy.ch can decide for themselves whether to pay 50, 70 or 100 euros, which will then be donated to FIZ.
Déjà vu
Sustainability is not a trend, but a necessity. The Swiss label Bally also knows this and has launched the B-Echo line, a collection made entirely from environmentally friendly materials. Eco-leather, mesh fabric made from recycled PET or recycled nylon made from nylon fibers or leather waste disposed of in the manufacturing process were therefore used for the bags or backpacks. The parts of the B-Echo line from Bally are available at a price of approx. 150.- to 690.-.
Shorty
Stuffy? We don’t care about what used to be, but celebrate the sweater today as the new it-piece of the season. The knitwear keeps us warm over a shirt or blouse dress in the cool spring, and when the temperatures rise, we wear the pullover completely solo. A garment that we will enjoy for a long time – and ultimately these are the items that come closest to the idea of sustainability.
Fuck off!
We’ve had enough of machos – and so have Mina Bonakdar and Elena Buscaino. With the “Riot Pant Project”, the two Berlin designers are drawing attention to the impossible behavior of certain men who, even in 2021, can’t resist marking their territory with their legs apart on public transport. And because it’s not just about male macho posturing, but about their dominance in everyday life, the two designers counter this with their pants and the slogans “Stop Spreading” and “Give Us Space”.
