“Bold Blanket” from Magniberg
Back from the desert with a cold? Let us guess: The temperature at the airport was comparable to that in an Arctic expedition hut. Whether it’s a chilly plane or a draughty hotel room, it’s a good idea to always have a scarf to hand when traveling – and preferably a large one that doubles as a blanket. The “Bold Blanket” from Magniberg is such a thing, on the threshold from scarf to blanket, made of virgin wool and available in such trendy colors that we are guaranteed not to leave it lying around anywhere on our travels. Magniberg, “Bold Blanket”, approx. 408.-. To the Magniberg website .
“Deck Chair Sea Girl” from Toiletpaper Home
It doesn’t matter whether we’re bobbing around in our local lake this summer or heading south: There comes a time when we lie down in the sun, park our thoughts and after a few minutes complain about the uncomfortable lounger – ouch! Better: just bring your favorite item yourself. In our case, it’s the “Deck Chair Sea Girl” from Toiletpaper Home, which can be stowed away in even the most crammed car or (just, really just!) carried as hand luggage. And if you can’t enjoy the sea, you can at least feel like you’re in the south thanks to the design. Toiletpaper Home, “Deck Chair Sea Girl”, approx. 143.-. To the Toiletpaper Home website .
The Black House, Borganes, Iceland
Nowhere is the green more lush, the white brighter and the black darker than in Iceland. The Nordic island state has a lot to offer – from Icelandic horses to geysers, waterfalls and hot springs. And indeed there is more, such as this accommodation, whose name is reminiscent of Dracula’s crypt: The Black House, however, only describes the façade; inside, you won’t find blackwashed walls or coffins, but so much coziness that it’s hard to leave. The Black House is located on the west coast of Iceland, about 70 kilometers north of Reykjavik and at the foot of the volcanic mountain Hafnarfjall. Blue in all its nuances, Nordic-cool country house style, as seen in the 18. and The natural materials used in the design make you feel like a baby in your mother’s arms as soon as you cross the threshold. If you do tear yourself away from the inviting armchairs, you can walk 50 meters from the house to the beach and overlook the ocean and the Snæfellsnes peninsula. And what is the pitch-black exterior actually all about? The owners see this as a homage to the old days when Icelandic house facades were made weatherproof with tar. Conceivable – even if the love of black had been plausible enough for us. The Black House, Borgarnes, Iceland, for four people from approx. 275.-. To the website of The Black House .
Book: “Soul Of Tokyo”
Tokyo is an anthill. So many people, so many possibilities. Finding the best of them, away from the mainstream and run-of-the-mill sights, is therefore sometimes more difficult than finding your partner in crime. To the rescue is “Soul of Tokyo”, more of a wanderlust-inducer than a travel guide, a work that makes your legs tremble and makes you even more impatient until the plane finally takes off for the east. Fany and Amandine Péchiodat show a star chef who does nothing like everyone else, a tea salon in the back room of a flower store, beds on the shelves of a library, a fake birthday party in an izakaya or a massage in a hammock, in other words: everything that makes our trip to Japan an adventure trip. Fany & Amandine Péchiodat, “Soul of Tokyo”, Jonglez Verlag, ca. 22.-
