Sustainability requires us to reduce our impact on climate change in every possible way.
For any entrepreneur, whether you own a SaaS product or another business, climate is probably also high on your agenda. That’s why we’ve rounded up some of the best ideas that we think will be a big hit in 2023 and beyond when it comes to sustainability. We’re writing this post now, but that’s because now is a good time to plan ahead, especially when it comes to making eco-friendly choices.
Switch to a carbon-neutral email marketing platform
Did you know that a typical e-mail emits 4 g of CO2 into the atmosphere? If that doesn’t sound so bad, consider that 300 billion emails are sent every year, and the picture changes. Email has an incredible ROI of $36 on average for every dollar spent. So how about making your email marketing even more attractive by switching to a platform that is CO2-negative?
For those who are not yet familiar with the term: Carbon negative means that even more carbon is compensated for than is produced. Currently, no other email marketing platforms such as HubSpot, ActiveCampaign or Intercom Carbon offer negative email marketing.
An even greater spread of home office or hybrid working
Hybrid working models or even working from home are not right for every company. But where they can work, the planet will benefit. During the lockdown, carbon dioxide emissions in Germany have fallen by almost 40% because fewer of us have taken to the streets, trains and subway because we are working from home.
Although working from home seems so “2020”, the pandemic has shown many companies that employees can often achieve a better work-life balance if they do it right. But most importantly for our climate, working from home takes millions of cars off the road.
And just think of all the new free time it has given you. Reading a good book, finally learning to program or simply memorizing the most important roulette terms – all that time you used to spend in the car or on the train can now be used for better things.
Biophilic design
All is not lost for those who have to stay in the office. Because another sustainability trend is biophilic design, and there’s no reason why this trend can’t be integrated into your office space.
Biophilic design looks for every opportunity to integrate plants and natural light into a building. Biophilic design not only has incredible benefits for productivity and well-being, but also provides cleaner air to breathe.
The six principles of biophilic design include environmental features, natural forms, natural patterns and processes, light and space, site-specific relationships and evolved relationships between humans and nature.
Concluding thoughts
While sustainability was more of a “yes, quite nice” in previous years, the attitude in 2023 and beyond will shift more towards responsibility and action.
So there is no better time to think about where your company stands and what improvements can be made in both the short and long term to reduce its carbon footprint.
