Around half a million visitors from all over the world have been gathering here every year since the roaring 60s: the Salone del Mobile is to a design fan what the World Cup is to a soccer fanatic, the absolute highlight of the year. There was a lot going on in mid-April – it was a matter of honor that we visited our Swiss trio of Fabian Bolliger, Laure Gremion and Ginger Zalaba at Rho Fiera Milano and had their extraordinary furniture creations explained to us.
Fabian Bolliger
When you enter an exhibition by Fabian Bolliger, you feel like you’re being watched: “Iris” is the name of the light installation with which the trained carpenter and artist celebrates the beauty of the human eye. Bolliger primarily creates individual pieces, furniture, light installations and works of art that are modern yet functional. In addition to “Iris”, we also saw fascinating pieces such as the “Hanging Steel Ball” and the “Exploded Mirror” in Milan – each object more colorful than the next.

Laure Gremion
The second of our Swiss Designer heroes is Laure Gremion from Neuchâtel. The product designer has never lost her inner child, which is why she implements her projects in an extremely playful way: Vases as if drawn from a picture book, wild flowers sprout from them. Her creations radiate a certain naturalness, functional and ecological, yet aesthetic and elegant.

Ginger Zalaba
The granddaughter of the architectural genius Otto Kolb is following in her grandfather’s footsteps: as a passionate architect and founder of Zalaba Design, Ginger Zalaba creates timelessly elegant pieces as if on a conveyor belt. Their design style is also known by the chivalrous name “New Bauhaus”. At the Salone del Mobile, she presented some of her latest furniture creations, which always exude a touch of nostalgia – luxurious, modern, but always true to the good old classics.
