The Salone del Mobile is one of the most important furniture fairs in the world. We have all the news from the world of furniture.

Milan becomes a cauldron during the Salone del Mobile. That’s why we appreciated being able to simply put our feet up at Missoni all the more. “Living inside-out” was the name of the installation by Alberto Caliri, Creative Director of Missoni Home Collection, consisting of colorful cushions, tables, carpets and seating that looked like a playground for adults. After a few minutes on the horizontal, we were fit again – and inspired to create a colorful home.

What’s on every interior freak’s bucket list? A luminaire from Louis Poulsen. This year, the Danish label is relaunching its classic PH range and presenting table lamps and pendant lights in trendy pink. Each member of the family exudes its own charm, be it through its combination of chrome and milk white opal glass (PH Question Mark) or a brushed brass suspension (VL 46 Pale Rose pendant light).

Monique Baumann actually belongs on the stage. Somewhere between the Stones and Virgil Abloh, after all, the Swiss artist is one of the greats and currently has more collabs under her belt than Pharrell Williams and all the members of the Kardashian clan put together. As part of Milan Design Week 2023, Baumann has pimped three pieces from the Kartell X Laufen collection with her well-known collage look. She worked with photo prints, scraps of paper, adhesive tape, cardboard, posters and anything else she could find space for on the craft table. The result is three ceramic pieces for the bathroom that outshine everything that currently exists there.

Workshop
The Salone del Mobile is like Disneyland for design lovers. No wonder, we gasp for air every time we enter the showrooms of interior brands whose new products truly take us to the seventh heaven of design. At USM this year, we felt like children in the queue at the Disney palace. Together with the non-profit organization The Skateroom, the Swiss label has not only designed a room that made us gasp, but also a collection that does good. To this end, Swiss artist Claudia Comte has taken the modular USM classics and skateboards and designed the limited-edition ZIGZAG collection, the sale of which will benefit young people in need in Jordan.

She is the Marilyn Monroe of lamps, photographed at least as often and guaranteed to be just as sexy: the Bourgie from Kartell. In contrast to the Monroe, the time of the Bourgie is not yet over, as Kartell is currently celebrating the twentieth anniversary of its Pop Art classic, which was designed by Ferruccio Laviani. The Bourgie made from recycled green polycarbonate is now a permanent fixture in living rooms around the world and is available in a limited edition of six colors under the motto “Bourgiemania” to mark its milestone birthday.

Future is now
More resourceful minds are needed in this world. People like the members of the Dutch design agency Envisions, who bring the future into the here and now. The latest coup: a range of home textiles made from upcycled yarns, textile waste, recycled PET and wool, which is revolutionizing the interior industry under the name Rē. This is how sustainability works.

Tacchini shows that recycling doesn’t just work in fashion with a new technique that uses surplus sheep’s wool to create a soft cushion inside seating furniture. Inspired by earlier mattress production, the pollutant-free, natural material is used in combination with natural latex in well-known Tacchini classics such as the Le Mura sofa by Mario Bellini or the Five-to-Nine daybed by Studiopepe.

When is eating the most fun? If you enjoy it with friends. Fair enough, that too, but of course also if you eat the delicacies from pretty plates and cups. Marimekko and the German artist Sabine Finkenauer have designed a joint capsule collection with graphic prints to satisfy the hunger of every eye.

Whether arguing or arm wrestling: Both are best held at the table. And because we’ve had our fill of the heavy real wood monsters by now, we’re ecstatic about the Mateo table by Vincent Van Duysen for Molteni. The slightly flared, cylindrical base consists of two halves separated by an open groove, on the neck of which sits an oval or round plate, depending on the version. We are particularly taken with the model in red high-gloss lacquer, for which we are currently putting every penny aside.

Not all lamps are the same. Nothing there! That’s why design fetishists love the unique hand-blown glass pieces from Berlin label Eloa. To achieve this, Swiss designer Simone Lüling and her team combine spectacular design with traditional craftsmanship. The result is cloud-like luminaires that provide almost weightless light in the room. Our favorite: the Haumea Convex with a crystalline surface and milky color gradient.
