Eckhart Nickel – Spitzweg
“I never cared much for art. I found most of the pictures I saw either unattractive or meaningless. Sometimes both at the same time. How did artists get the idea that the world should be interested in what they put on paper? Paintings themselves, what are they good for? Before I hang a landscape on the wall, I prefer to look out at it through a window. And if I feel like seeing a person, I put a mirror right there. Art often tries to be both a window and a mirror, and yet it can replace neither one nor the other. It is precisely when it attempts to depict life realistically that the extent of its failure becomes particularly clear.” This is how Eckhart Nickel’s new novel begins, and if you want to make your world a better and more beautiful place for a few hours, then I recommend reading “Spitzweg” (approx. 22.-, Piper Verlag). You will enjoy it.

Pepper mill “Paris Chef” from Peugeot
It took me a while to recognize their necessity. I gave her her place on my hero’s pedestal and realized that the life before her was only half a life. At least the one in the kitchen. This crunching, this cracking. Add to that the curved body and Rubens would be in heaven, or at least on cloud nine, as I am when I pick up my pepper mill and turn it until I get that pleasant feeling that gives ASMR its name. There’s just one catch: I over-pepper my dishes, regularly causing coughing fits, not only for me but also for my guests, because I just can’t stop turning and grinding, pulverizing the peppercorns that fall out of the mill like snowflakes from Mrs. Holles’ pillow. You want to see it? Come by for a plate of cacio e pepe or something. (Peugeot, “Paris Chef”, 22 cm, approx. 100.-)

Travia Crossbody It-Bag from MCM
Officially, Lent is over, but I have imposed a long-term shopping fast on myself. And yes, things are getting better and better. The addiction is largely under control. My Achilles heel: Bags. Bags in mini, small, large and always and only expensive. In my opinion, however, there is almost no more sensible investment than in a perfectly crafted, timeless accessory that enhances any look. MCM is a true expert when it comes to luxury bags, and that’s why I’m so taken with the new TRAVIA Crossbody It-Bag (approx. 1,400.-, mcmworldwide.com) that I’m only millimeters away from breaking my fast. The smell of high-quality nappa leather and this terracotta shade also remind me of a wonderful vacation in Italy – and I could really do with one right now.
