Fashionable lipstick colors: current trends 2023

Lipstick color trends 2023

Many people are only guided by their mood when choosing a lipstick color. We advise you to consider not only your feelings, but also your appearance – your skin tone and hair color. And, of course, trends.

Statistically speaking, sales of red lipstick increase when the weather is bad. Unsurprisingly, sentiment has an influence on who buys in one direction or another. But your mood shouldn’t be the only deciding factor in which lipstick color you choose. In this article, we’ll tell you what else you should look out for, which shades are on trend and which are versatile and suitable for everyone.

Fashionable lipstick shades 2023

Day make-up is all about softness and neutrality. In this case, the girls can choose the next lipstick color in the coming season:

  • Brown nude – combine with beige or pink pencil;
  • Orange – a shade on the contours can be fixed with a transparent gloss;
  • Gloss – you can choose variants with optical enlargement of the lips.

The fashion show, which determined the beauty trends of the past year, showed that not only classic looks are in fashion. Pure red was presented on the catwalk by Jason Wu. Stronger shades such as wine, as presented by Giambattista Valli and Temperley London, are also on trend now. Both with a distinctly glossy texture that creates a “wet” effect. At https://makeup.ch/brand/24201/ you will find trendy lipstick shades from one of the most popular brands – Dior.

Darker shades of red are suitable for gothic make-up, as can be seen at Philipp Plein and some other brands. Bordeaux with the addition of black looks magical on the lips. Black itself was also to be seen on the lips of the models during the fashion weeks – for example at the Gucci show. So if you’re going for an extreme makeover, you can paint your lips black (NYX Professional Makeup’s Liquid Suede Metallic Matte Lipstick in shade #40 will help).

To balance these trends, Moschino suggested a nude lipstick shade – so that the lips blend in with the complexion. At the Chanel and Jeremy Scott shows, the make-up artists preferred a pink nude with a moist balm texture.

How do you choose the right lipstick color?

It’s easier to find “your” lipstick if you take your features into account: Eye color, hair color, skin tone.

Eyes

To create a harmonious look, eye and lip make-up should balance each other out. Choose a lipstick that contrasts well with the color of your eyes. For girls with brown eyes, for example, a bright fuchsia, for girls with gray eyes a classic red and for girls with blue eyes a neon pink.

Hair

Our own rules also apply here. Blondes, for example, should not “darken” their make-up. You should not only avoid black eyeliner, but also burgundy lipstick, although this can look very effective in some cases – for example with make-up for an evening look.

Skin tone

If you have fair skin, choose a lipstick in the pink palette (neon pink, raspberry, cherry and plum are all good choices). Medium skin tones go well with coral shades. And for dark-skinned people, it makes sense to pay attention to colors such as terracotta, cherry and burgundy-red.

You can use your overall color type as a guide. If it is “cool”, then the lipstick should have a “cool” bluish undertone. And for “warm” lipsticks, you can choose soft, “warm” shades: Coral, ochre, marsala, beige and caramel.

Cold lipstick color

To take a closer look at which lipstick colors are cool, it’s worth explaining the reasons behind the classification. The “temperature” of the color is determined by the undertone – if you can distinguish white, blue, green and lemon yellow in it, then it is “cold”.

The 2023 lipstick trend also includes crimson, purple, lilac and lavender.

Warm lipstick color

If it is difficult to decide whether a shade is “warm”, check whether it has red, orange or canary yellow undertones.

If this is the case, the lipstick can be described as “warm”. Beige, coral, terracotta, caramel and brown are the most common shades of these colors.

Lipstick shades for blonde hair

Blonde hair is neither too light nor too dark. This gives those who choose lipstick to match their hair color a certain freedom. Red, crimson, cherry, mauve and burgundy can be on the lips. But remember that blonde hair can also have “cool” and “warm” shades.

Lipstick shades for brunettes

Dark-haired girls have less choice: Fuchsia, cherry, peach, salmon, pomegranate, coffee, beige and golden brown are the most successful options. However, lipsticks with a white undertone (e.g. lavender shades) do not look good on brunettes.

Lipstick shades for redheads

Red-haired girls need lipsticks in “warm” shades. These are peach, coral, deep pink, plum, burgundy-red and brown.

Lipstick shades for blondes

Choose light red tones (you can recognize them by their orange undertone), bright “lollipop” pink, but also soft pink, dusty pink and other equally light variations of these.

You can find all the best lipsticks on the MAKEUP website. The online store offers a large selection of original and high-quality products, low prices and fast delivery throughout Switzerland.
