The Hype Fashion – October 2022

“Just because something is on trend doesn’t mean you have to embrace it.”

The Look

Raise the curtain!

Even those who are still clinging desperately to the ice cream cone have to realize at some point: It’s time. Time for long pants, for stockings and boots and coats that bury an entire outfit like Kim Kardashian buries her memories of her relationship with Kanye West. Dolce & Gabbana comforts die-hard summer fans over the change of season with a coat that is more circus tent than wool fabric, embossed and shimmering and in such a bright red that we press our foot on the brake pedal, turn in and speed on towards fall.

With this coat, what’s underneath becomes a minor matter.

New Brand

Eastern Story

Garments never simply belong in the garbage can. Never. The stories they carry are too good for that, and the material too precious. In Sarah-Jane’s case, it’s not just any old clothes that she uses for her collections, but discarded kimonos from her new home country of Japan. From Basel to Tokyo, after the Swiss designer filled her CV in London with labels such as Alexander McQueen and Missoni. Sarah-Jane has long known that fast fashion is part of the axis of evil – which is one reason why she decided to make everything better with her own label Amaud. She creates colorful designs from discarded kimonos that are made in Japan between the nimble fingers of traditional tailors. amaud-store.com

Books

Colossus

Annie Leibovitz’s pictures are like looking through a keyhole. Very private, very personal. Yoko Ono and John Lennon embrace, and all we see is pure love. Leibovitz has over 40 years as a photographer under her belt and more photos in her quiver than there is room for. No wonder her legacy weighs so heavily. It weighed 26 kilograms in 2014 when the work was published by Taschen-Verlag. Today, the new, unlimited SUMO edition weighs in at just under six. In it, the Queen and Richard Nixon shake hands, as do Lady Gaga and Jack Nicholson. Take a look, browse, marvel and get down on your knees in front of the queen of photography. “Annie Leibovitz”, bags, approx. 125(taschen.com)

Nice to have

Yeti’s Favorite

If we’re already sitting at home, then please wear cozy slippers. Our favorites come from the studio of the Swiss label Inuikii, are powder pink and cuddly soft and look great even when we have to get off the sofa and out into the cold to get new snacks for the TV day. Inuikii, “Cosy Slipper Powder”, approx. 140(inuikii.com)

Unfuck the World

Seabound

It really sucks how much stuff is drifting in our oceans and threatening the habitat of our swimming friends. However, much of the plastic in the sea does not come from the little man, but consists of discarded fishing nets. Trend: rising. In up to 800 years, the death traps for marine animals and arch-enemies of the ecosystem will become dangerous microplastics – can it get any worse? Before it gets that far, Bracenet works with Healthy Seas, Ghost Diving and Nofir to fish the nets out of the water and use them to make clothing, bracelets, accessories and bags that will bring joy to your home for years to come. From net to fashion: at Bracenet’s Hamburg factory, skilled hands turn bad into good. The company is constantly working with universities and smart people from other industries on ideas and technologies to create something new even from the last piece of network. But that’s not all, Bracenet regularly donates to organizations that protect the oceans, focuses on resource-saving production and sends its products in reusable cotton bags, without the use of plastic and in space-saving envelopes made of recycled paper – if you can do it, do it! bracenet.net

It-Piece

Yippie yah yeah

It doesn’t matter whether there’s a horse or just a few horsepower waiting for us: We now strap cowboy boots to our feet and march as confidently as if the polished sheriff’s star was emblazoned on our chest. The kicks are more colorful than ever and come in a wide variety of heights – so choose whatever your heart desires.

Paco Rabanne, “Santiago”, ca. 1’096.-(farfetch.com)
Ganni, embroidered boots, approx. 490.-

Trends

8 am

The thick leather jacket may be deceptive, but underneath, tweed blazers and minis are slumbering very nicely, because when the clock strikes eight, class begins. This season, we’re digging our school uniforms out of the wardrobe and mixing and matching what we wear when we’re not at our desks. The college jacket goes hand in hand with culottes and sneakers, while blouses and sweaters dance intimately with trench coats and leather trousers. Clearly, that gets top marks.
