This year, Swatch is collaborating with the Jean-Michel Basquiat Foundation as part of its Art Journey Collection. The result is three watches that every art fan will want to get their hands on.
The Louvre in Paris, the MoMa in New York or the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam: they are not only the home of great art, but also past partners for Swatch’s Art Journey. The result: year after year, new works from the museums end up on the watches that we finally strap onto our wrists. The last collection of the Art Journey 2023 is a real sensation, as Swatch has brought the Jean-Michel Basquiat Foundation on board. From today, three works by the New York artist Basquiat – brilliant, grandiose and who died far too young – adorn the dial and strap of three watch models, which are available individually or as a limited collector’s set. The special feature: All the movements depicted on the watches are from the year Swatch was born, 1983, and are therefore something of a self-made birthday present for the watch brand.
Swatch X Jean-Michel Basquiat, Hollywood Africans
Inspired by the 1983 work of the same name, the Hollywood Africans model explores racism and stereotypes.
Swatch X Jean-Michel Basquiat, Ishtar
Ishtar is the Mesopotamian goddess of fertility and war and finds a new home as an element on the Swatch watch.
Swatch X Jean Michel Basquiat, (Untitled)
An unmistakable Basquiat! The signature, the distinctive lines and the crown, so typical of Basquiat, complete the third watch model in the Swatch Art Journey Collection.
Collectors take note! All three watches are also available as a Special Edition Triptych, whereby the models with double loops and new colored second hands stand out from the individually available watches. But you have to be quick: register at swatch.com or directly in one of the Swatch Stores to be among the chosen few who can secure this special edition.
