Shortcuts December 2019

“I want to know who is spending 1,000 dollars on a sweater! That makes no sense!” Emily Ratajkowski

Cinderella

Well, the fairy godmother doesn’t have the time and we don’t have the money to dress up for every Christmas party. Give us sequins, give us silver, and we’ll be ready for all the invitations that await us until the turn of the year. This skirt (s.Oliver BLACK LABEL, approx. 149) with silver-colored sequins in a trendy midi length goes just as well with a cashmere sweater as it does with a silk top and can be styled cool with boots or classy with heels.

Skin on skin

Everyone has brown or black leather jackets in their wardrobe. And that is precisely the problem. Surely you are not grazing with the herd, but bleating your own song. Take a cue from the looks on the catwalk and wrap yourself in colored leather, thick coats with gradients, heavy skirts or blazers that can also be styled with jeans. Karl Lagerfeld, “Leather Shirt Jacket”, leather jacket, approx. 326, Zimmer-mann, “Espionage Leather Boiler Suit”, Overall made of leather, ca. 3’083.-, Stella McCartney, “Skin free skin skirt”, skirt made of imitation leather, approx. 985.-

Monkey business

Logos have not only been playing in the striker position since the revival of the 90s. So it’s all the cooler that two companies are now joining forces that share the former as a trademark: MCM and A Bathing Ape. Luxury meets streetwear, futuristic design meets state-of-the-art technology and MCM’s Visetos pattern meets the camouflage and shark prints of A Bathing Ape. Sweaters, T-shirts, rucksacks and various accessories are available in selected stores. MCM x BAPE, “Milo Crew Neck”, cotton sweater, approx. 315.-, MCM x BAPE, “Shark Backpack”, canvas backpack, approx. 1’175.-

Changing room

Don’t fancy shopping online because you can’t try the items on directly? Thanks to virtual reality and the GOAT app, you can easily conjure up sneakers on your feet using your smartphone . Set up the app, select a pair of shoes, and your new favorite shoes are on your feet. Oh yes, the parts can of course also be purchased at . GOAT – Sneakers & Apparel, free for iOS and Android.

Dracula untold

Capes are not practical, but they are stylish. It makes no sense not to tell you about the former. We do it differently and advise you in advance to invest in a pair of long gloves after a cool cape. Capes are available this season in various lengths and colors, in leather, wool or cashmere and can be combined with almost any outfit. If the temperatures don’t allow it, you can wear a thick sweater or a jacket underneath. However, make sure you buy your cape in an oversize – extra fabric not only guarantees extra warmth, but also extra coolness.

The perfect match

Furrows and wrinkles give a face personality, while stripes and stains give the Freitag bag its trademark. If at some point we no longer have any love left for the latter, we simply swap it for another one in Freitag’s S.W.A.P. store. Once your bag has been registered and activated on the Freitag website, you can swipe for a new favorite at at www.freitag.ch/de/swipe in Tinder style. If two users confess to liking each other’s bags, they swap places, and two discarded lovers become new favorites.

Studies

We actually prefer to look forwards rather than backwards. To understand fashion, however, you need a little more than a full Insta feed. For this reason, we now sit down and study the clothing from three decades. “Fashion History from the 18th to the 20th Century” brings together shoes, accessories and outfits that have shaped what we wear today. This 632-page work will help us to do even better in the future when it comes to fashion. Kyoto Costume Institute, “Fashion History from the 18th to the 20th Century”, Taschen, ca. 70.-
