Reflection
What could be more bourgeois than glass coasters! Fair enough – but there comes a time, believe me, somewhere after your thirtieth birthday, when you’re just annoyed about water and wine stains on the beautiful wooden table. Relax, you don’t need to put anything crocheted underneath, but maybe these painted glass rondelles. &klevering, set of 4, approx. 41 (hbx.com)
Book
Pure Satisfaction
Lovesick? Fear of the future? Nothing helps with first-world problems like a plate of pasta. Deborah Kaloper also prescribes this in her cookbook “Pasta Night”, which contains over 60 recipes that take all worries off the table. Once the latter are gone, you can devote yourself to the important things in life. Such as the question of whether macaroni and cheese have the same right to exist in this work as penne arrabiata and gorgonzola gnocchi. One third
We simply throw away too much. That’s a fact – and a rather bitter one that, once on the tongue, doesn’t quite fit down the throat. A third of all food grown never reaches our plates, but ends up in the bin before it does. Because the tomato has a dent, the carrot is crooked instead of straight or the apple is not quite as red as in the fairy tale of Snow White.

Ferrari
The slicer is to the chef as the Ferrari is to the car fan. And yes, if you buy pre-sliced bread, you don’t need to read any further. Berkel makes sure that our kitchen is equipped with this neat machine, which slices everything from ham and cheese to vegetables with such precision that even the simplest things make your eyes sparkle. The new Home Line Plus is the superhero among kitchen gadgets: the slicer cuts with millimeter precision and effortlessly in 20 different positions, made possible by the powerful motor. Santa, are you listening? Berkel, “Home Line Plus 250”, approx. 799.-
Movie
Ugly Dinner
It’s no secret that the kitchen can become a battlefield. In “The Menu”, however, Ralph Fiennes takes the whole thing a little too literally: the hype restaurant turns into a horror scene, the guests become the hunted, and Fiennes unpacks the really sharp knives. The film is something between a comedy and a horror shocker, a bit of foodie parody and a bit of social criticism – definitely worth seeing. “The Menu”, from 17. November 2022 in theaters
