“When you have guests from out of town, I don’t care how important they are, you should feed them the essence of Italian culture: spaghetti, bread and olive oil.” Brunello Cucinelli

If fast food, then pizza! But opinions differ when it comes to the surface. HelloFresh, the provider of cooking boxes, conducted a survey in Switzerland to find out which pizza variant is best received. In fact, 32.73 percent of all respondents opted for the salami pizza, ahead of the pineapple version with 25.51 percent and the classic, the Margherita pizza, with 11.51 percent. We only have one question: Pizza Hawaii in second place?
Happy hour
Instead of drinking cheap beer during the lockdown, we prefer decent alcohol. And first of all: this has nothing to do with binge drinking when we sit down in front of the computer and take part in a virtual gin or whisky tasting, yes! It’s all about tasting the nuances, testing different products and focusing on something that makes us forget the solitude of sitting at home. Such tastings are offered by the Berlin Distillery, for example, which provides participants with spirits, tonics, glasses and botanicals in advance by post. Just in time for the start of the tasting, everyone sits down in front of the screen and watches the tasting together. If you like, you can also take part in a virtual tour of the distillery and find out how the Berlin Distillery’s gin and whisky get into their cool glass bottles. Gorgonzola, Gouda, Emmental. It’s always the same types of cheese that end up in our shopping basket. Yet Switzerland in particular has so many varieties of mild and aged cheeses that most of us don’t even know about. This is where the boxes from the start-up Cheezy come into play, which searches for the best varieties throughout Switzerland, packs them in suitable packages and brings them to the consumer. Even the biggest cheese fan will discover new favorites, which they can pick up directly from the respective cheese dairy after tasting them thanks to the information provided in the box. Cheezy boxes are available as a one-off delivery or as a subscription for four or eight weeks and in different designs and quantities from approx. 35 per box. www.cheezy.ch
Fruit loop
If Jonathan Litscher had continued, he would probably be on the board of a major London bank today. But the Bernese can do without the cash and the fancy suit, because: What he does now lets him sleep better than his old job. Litscher and his company “We Are Nyanja” now export dried mangoes from Mozambique to Switzerland, not only creating jobs there but also preventing food waste. Around 300 families receive a basic income through Litscher’s work by processing the mangoes that would otherwise rot under the trees. What began with fruit dryers assembled according to plans from the network is now a factory with 50 employees and a network of 300 producers, from whom “We Are Nyanja” buys over 100 tons of mangoes every year – and at fair prices that are many times higher than the market price. However, the producers are not only happy about their newly blossomed financial resources, but also about their faces, which can be seen on the packaged dried mangoes.
