They don’t speak much, and when they do, it’s jokes with a devilish sense of humor or whispered instructions to the four-legged friend who sniffs out the gold in the earth. Gold, yes, and the white kind – we’re talking about the Alba truffle, the most coveted tuber in the world, whose home deep in the forests of northern Italy is known only to those whose noses lead them there. The movie “The Truffle Hunters” is like looking through a keyhole and into the lives of these unconventional old people who go hunting for the tuber at night with their dogs. At night? Well, no one begrudges the other the success of finding the biggest truffle, which fetches a price on the international market that everyone here who has dedicated their lives to white gold dreams of. “The Truffle Hunters”, 84 minutes, from 11. November 2021 in Swiss cinemas
Splendor and glory
You’re an adult when the corkscrew costs more than the bottle of wine. Or you pay more for the peeler than for a whole kilo of organic carrots. Well then, Victorinox wraps its classic, the REX peeler, in 24 carat gold. This will look particularly good under the tree next month – and on the tree if necessary, as the golden blade rivals any Christmas bauble. Victorinox, “REX”, 24 carat gold-plated, approx. 69.-

Ideal size? Even on the catwalk, people have now moved away from the 90-60-90 standard, but there is still fierce beauty competition on the vegetable shelves. Dents and bulges? Miniature or huge? Get rid of it and put it in the garbage can. And that is bad, especially and even more so in view of those who are starving, biodiversity, food shortages and the fact that agriculture is desperate. Among other things, Grassrooted is dedicated to rescuing vegetables that normal supermarkets don’t want. This is how it works: With a subscription to Grassrooted, you get a package of six kilograms of vegetables from an organic or Demeter farm delivered to your door every two weeks. The whole thing costs 37, and you get a clear conscience for free on top. grassrooted.ch

The eye eats with the food, and it always does, which is why people started decorating their tables at some point. Designer Aline Telek has numerous goodies in store for the latter, from tablecloths to matching sets and prints to plates painted with vegetables – everything that makes our food taste even better. Particularly enchanting: the five-legged turnips, heart-shaped potatoes or gnarled black salsify that Telek collects, draws and prints on vintage crockery, which can actually end up in the dishwasher after another trip to the kiln. Aline Telek, “Veggie Rebels”, porcelain, each object is unique, from approx. 40.-, fil-rouge.ch
