Who are we wishing a happy birthday to this month? Jeremy Allen White, Noah Lyles, Melanie Perkins, Lily Gladstone, Michael Miller, Jorja Smith, Rick Astley, Anna Weyant, Lion Christ and Paris Hilton are our FACES of the month.
Jeremy Allen White – Five Star Snack
Lousy tattoos, facial scarring, fat-splattered shirt and dark circles the size of two children’s sleeping bags: in the hit series “The Bear”, lead actor Jeremy Allen White wears the perfect “Dude I definitely shouldn’t have a crush on, but damn, I can’t help myself!” starter kit. Guys like this used to fill up the office fridge in Coca-Cola commercials, now they’re at the stove cooking you the best food in the world. Appetite for more? The New Yorker will soon be sweating it out on the big screen in the wrestling drama “The Iron Claw”.
No idea why everyone is losing their heads over this blond-haired man? Then take a look at the trailer for “The Bear”.
Noah Lyles – Tempomad
For his competitors, it’s a runaway success. Sprinter Noah Lyles is currently hard to beat in the 100 and 200 meters. The American is breaking decades-old US records and is about to overtake the legendary legacy of Usain Bolt. But it is his performances away from the track that have made the charismatic anime fan inspire a new generation of athletics fans. In interviews, he dribbles out the NBA, cheers on his colleagues in their pursuit of best times and also earns a gold medal for his fits on Insta.
How to become as fast as Noah over 100 meters? Let the athlete here explain it to you.
Melanie Perkins – Yes We Canva
Thank you, Melanie Perkins. In a tech world that solves problems every day that don’t even exist, the Australian’s invention has become indispensable for millions of people. The online graphics program Canva turns even our mom into a stylish designer, to whom we would otherwise have to explain how to send Memojis on WhatsApp. As a teacher, Perkins realized how traditional applications were overwhelming her classes. So she developed a free tool that was as simple as it was efficient and became the CEO of a 26 billion dollar company.

Lily Gladstone – Pow-wow woman
America likes to talk about itself. But it also likes to leave out some things. For example, when it comes to the treatment of its indigenous population. But slowly such stories are also being told to a wider audience. Lily Gladstone is one of the most captivating and fearless spokeswomen. The actress from the Blackfeet and Nimiipuu tribes has made a lasting impression in TV series such as “Reservation Dogs” and will soon be making her big appearance in Martin Scorsese’s new film “Killers of the Flower Moon”.

Jorja Smith – Home advantage
Sometimes it takes a step back to move forward. At the age of 18, Jorja Smith traveled to London to become a star. Three years later, the singer had reached her goal: a celebrated debut album, two Brit Awards, the new voice of black music. In the big city, however, her peace of mind became less and less. The world was at Jorja’s feet, but she could no longer see the sky. Therefore boldly back to “Start”. Now the 26-year-old is back in the village of her childhood and sounds even better on the album “Falling or Flying”. And somehow freer.
You can find out what Jorja is up to on her website here.
Rick Astley – The Popfather
In the 80s, he made us the big promises: “Together Forever”, “Never Gonna Give You Up”. But unlike all the jump-off boyfriends, Rick Astley has stuck to his guns. Even when we degraded him to a meme, the singer enjoyed his dubious second spring with humor. Now his career is back in full swing after the Englishman floated over everyone at this year’s Glastonbury Festival on a cloud of pastel fabric and hairspray. His new album also proves that his words are light as a feather – and yet worth their weight in gold.

Lion Christ – Bravaria
The worst thing about Lion Christian’s debut novel “Sauhund” is that Rainer Werner Fassbinder is no longer alive to make it into a movie. The young author remembers a time that he did not experience himself. And in a captivating way, he whirls the gay Flori from the dreary village through decadent nights in the capital. In Freddie Mercury’s Munich, the protagonist hopes for liberation, but initially remains trapped in the Bavaria of Franz Josef Strauss and the rampant AIDS panic. We hope that a future lion of German literature is roaring here.

Paris Hilton – Still It
Paris Hilton has drawn the map for navigating the modern celebrity world. In the meantime, the blueprint for the “influencer” business model has taken off its rose-colored sunglasses. The memoir “Paris” is not a list of the most sparkling types of champagne, but a reckoning with the troubled teen industry, where young people are locked up in educational camps for the slightest offense and often subjected to trauma and abuse. Getting through this nightmare and finding peace despite ridicule and resistance? That’s hot.

Anna Weyant – Monumentalist
No embellishment is needed to describe Anna Weyant’s steep rise in the art world. Her brushstroke creates immortality: “Now I will live forever”, commented Venus Williams on the unveiling of her portrait. The work is the latest coup for the Canadian, whose paintings are sold at auction for millions. Our checkbook is missing a few zeros, but we are captivated by the 28-year-old’s style: Feminist motifs are staged with the coloration of Dutch baroque painting, making them look equally powerful and timeless.

Michael Miller – Union Chic
Without people like Michael Miller, stars on the red carpet would look like us on the way to the mailbox before our first coffee. The celebrity stylist has already dressed up Willem Dafoe and Cillian Murphy. But in contrast to their shoe tips, the working conditions in Miller’s industry are not brilliant. It’s high time to rectify this injustice. So the Londoner founded the first trade union for celebrity stylists. Inspired US colleagues could follow suit, and Hollywood studio bosses are tugging at their shirt collars in annoyance. That’s good.
