Where others see boring everyday life, photographers discover new worlds. And it is precisely into these universes that we immerse ourselves when we stroll through the photoSCHWEIZ exhibition, which runs from 12. to 16. January 2024 opens its doors in Zurich. Here, snapshots become art and guests become fans.
Anniina Joki A good eye and patience are important for a photographer. Attributes that the Finn Anniina Joki carries on both shoulders and sometimes in her chest, where her heart beats for photography and for using her art to sharpen people’s awareness of the essentials.Christopher Berwing Why Christopher Berwing’s father set up the changing table in his darkroom of all places could be a curious question – but that is actually beside the point. What counts is how the native Berliner was enchanted by the chemical vapors and today lends his photographed locations a new, sometimes even surreal dimension.Pascal Corbat The world is changing in three decades. But not Pascal Corbat’s love of photography, which took him from fashion to sport and onto the set of major advertising shoots. Now in focus: a project close to his heart.Mirielle Alina Rohr A name full of creativity and a presence like a skyscraper: Mirielle Alina Rohr from Berlin studied in Potsdam and is currently studying in Lausanne. After her first solo exhibition in 2021, she is once again lifting the curtain and taking us into her very own world at photoSCHWEIZ.Jürg Sigrist Piece by piece, Jürg Sigrist from Winterthur has made the craft of photography his own. Initially a hobby, pressing the shutter release is now one of his greatest passions and photographing nature and everyday life is something of a hobbyhorse.Samuel Spreyz Are gay cis men trapped in the healthcare system forever? Like desiring clones under chemicals, they are enjoying a new sexual revolution – and using legal drugs to do so. The craving turns them into long-term patients and a vicious circle begins. Samuel Spreyz is fascinated by this lifestyle of drugs, parties and hardcore practices and gives it a face in his photographs.Tobias Ulbrich Analog only – imperfect as life itself. Tobias Ulbrich has been celebrating analog photography for no less than eleven years. His heart is set on street photography, the quick click and that brief moment when everyday life becomes art.Budi What you need to know about Budi? “I’m a student of life”. During the pandemic, the Egyptian artist practiced acting; today, in his adopted home of New York, he photographs people who have something to say. He graduated shortly before the outbreak of Covid-19 and began taking photographs after the murder of George Floyd.Alessio Ngu What began on the streets of Paris during Fashion Week with a simple compact camera was the starting signal for Alessio Ngu’s photography career. Today, his works are more abstract, exciting and complex – but no less worth seeing.Sara De Brito Faustino Sara De Brito Faustino has been in love with photography for eleven years – longer than some marriages last. In any case, the stars are aligned, my studies are over and the future is bright.Bor Cvetko Bor Cvetko’s works, which the ECAL Master’s student presents to us, are a little disturbing. The topic: our existence. Cvetko’s approach: merging photography and digital tools. Successful, we think.Maria Brunner He who is curious wins, and he who dares does so anyway. No wonder, Maria Brunner is one of the crème de la crème of Swiss artists with her AI-combined photographs.Fabienne Watzke Fabienne Watzke’s works function as powerful metaphors for our lives in this highly constructed world. Watzke encourages us to reflect on the profound impact of our existence on the environment and the growing sense of alienation in our fast-paced modern society.photoSCHWEIZ Fancy seeing the world through a different lens?
