THE HYPE: BEAUTY News & Trends

Be lazy and blue, balance your hormones and unpack the old crepe iron again: Here are our current favorite trends from the beauty world.

Make-up trend

MAKE BLUE

We wouldn’t describe ourselves as lazy. But somehow we’re always drawn to make-up looks that can be applied in passing – perhaps even at the last glance in the mirror, with one foot already out the door. Such creations still get attention. A glittery blue eyeliner is enough to add a little color to the inner corners of the eyes at the top and bottom, and your eyes will sparkle.

We Love

GIRLGLOSS

15 years ago, when we were still using the internet to read blogs, Emily Weiss founded just such a blog: “Into the Gloss”. There she wrote about the beauty routines of famous women. What sounds banal quickly exploded in popularity, so much so that she founded her clean beauty brand Glossier in 2014. The focus: minimalist products somewhere between skincare and make-up, with an unmistakable, Instagram-worthy aesthetic. The recipe still works today, as Glossier is still worth millions, impresses with favorites such as the Cloud Paint Blush and now has everything from deodorant to perfume in its range. For all those who not only want to fill their shopping baskets, but also really immerse themselves in history: In “Glossy: Ambition, Beauty, and the Inside Story of Emily Weiss’s Glossier”, journalist Marisa Meltzer analyzes the Glossier hype and portrays Emily Weiss’ journey from suburban girl to girlboss business mogul.

Nice to Have

YOU’RE SO GOLDEN

Hormones not only upset our mood, but also our skin. With increasing age, oestrogen levels fall, which can be seen in dryness, loss of density or age spots, among other things. What sounds unattractive and depressing is not so bad. After all, ageing is a privilege and scientists are working flat out on products that support our skin at every stage of life. La Prairie relies on the finest ingredients – caviar, for example. Or liquid gold, as in the case of the Pure Gold Collection. The Pure Gold Revitalizing Essence reduces the visible effects of hormonal changes, soothes and moisturizes. And a little gold shimmer on top doesn’t hurt either. By the way: La Prairie works with the Swiss Gold Association to source gold from small mines that extract the precious metal by river prospecting rather than mining.

Hair Trend

UNCLOSED

Silky straight hair is great. So is wavy. Why not integrate both into one look? The best way to do this is to unpack the old-school crimping iron. Adding a little movement in just a few places saves time. If you don’t want to suffer any lasting damage from the unconventional look, just don’t forget the heat protection.

New Perfume

MULTITALENT

“I strutted in a way that I didn’t know I was capable of,” actress and director Eva Victor told Another Magazine. What gave her so much power? A look from Loewe that she wore when she presented her movie “Sorry, Baby” in Cannes. But Eva Victor would have enough reason for extra self-confidence even without the look. She wrote the screenplay for “Sorry, Baby”, directed it and played the lead role. The unagitated drama gradually conquered the film world – and Eva Victor conquered Hollywood. For Loewe’s new creative directors, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, dressing the American was not enough. They made her the face of the campaign for the new fragrances “Iris Root”, “Roasted Vanilla” and “Bittersweet Oud” from the Crafted Collection. These come in sculptural bottles with natural air bubbles that encourage collection.
