FACES: What does clean beauty even mean?
Andrea Brotschi: Clean Beauty has its origins in the USA. It is difficult to say exactly when this trend began. However, it was born out of a desire for “pure cosmetics”. Many consumers had had enough of beauty products that were criticized for containing questionable ingredients. Ingredients whose effects on the body and the environment are not 100 percent clear are avoided. For Paul Mitchell, “clean beauty” is defined by high-performance products that are carefully developed and produced with pure ingredients and environmentally friendly manufacturing processes.
F: How do you like the design of the Clean Beauty REPAIR line from Paul Mitchell?
AB: I really like the design of the bottles and the packaging, and I find both very appealing. I also think it’s great that you can see at a glance on the bottle what percentage of the ingredients are of natural origin.
F: In what order, when and how do you apply the products?
AB: I used the Clean Beauty Shampoo every two days as well as the conditioner. I used the leave-in treatment once or twice a week.
F: What do you find most convincing about the Paul Mitchell products you tested?
AB: What convinces me the most is the vegan formulation of the clean beauty products with organic plant extracts and the bio-based packaging material. And of course the effect of the REPAIR products on my hair!
F: What was the impression of your hair after the first application of the Clean Beauty REPAIR line?
AB: My hair felt supple and after repeated use it also felt stronger. The shampoo also didn’t foam as much as other shampoos (which is because it doesn’t contain any sulphates).
F: Why is it so important for you to use products that also repair your hair?
AB : As I get my hair styled for many of my jobs (shoots/shows/presentations/advertising shoots), my hair is very often stressed and also brittle. That’s why it’s even more important to me to use products that also repair.
F: How much attention do you pay to sustainable packaging when it comes to beauty products, and to what extent do Paul Mitchell’s products score highly here?
AB: I have to admit that I didn’t always pay attention to sustainable packaging in previous years – this will
is becoming increasingly important to me, and I try to buy products according to this criterion. Every bottle from Paul Mitchell’s Clean Beauty line is made of 90 percent bio-based plastic from sugar cane, which is completely recyclable. Bioplastics degrade more quickly than normal plastic, which takes up to 500 years to decompose.
