“To me, fashion is art.” Cardi B.
Big thing
The broad shoulders are nothing new. But as we know from bell bottoms and the return of the belly bag, everything comes back. This summer, it’s all about the overhanging shoulders – somewhat more elegant in design and preferably in combination with materials such as silk, satin or cotton as a blazer or blouse. Broad shoulders demand an upright posture, self-confidence and a gait that makes every doorman move aside. So insecure little mice are better off leaving it alone.

Before you pass judgment on these sandals, remember: they are comfortable, protect feet from steaming asphalt and hot sand, go with jeans shorts as well as with a waist skirt and don’t stop us from dancing until dawn. The features of the current favorite shoes: buckles, ankle-high design and a platform that easily cheats us three centimeters taller.

We’ve had enough of Aviator shapes and Matrix glasses. The new models from Neubau Eyewear are cooler than anything we’ve ever worn on our noses before, . As if the spaced-out look wasn’t argument enough, the fact that they are made from castor oil in Austria and from a 3D printer adds another. Even the case is made of cellulose and the accompanying cleaning cloth is made from recycled plastic bottles. Not a speck of dirt covers the cool glasses from Neubau Eyewear. Clean, we like ! www.neubau-eyewear.com
Role model
Ikou Tschüss became famous for her foulards crocheted with recycled cord. The colorful silk scarves quickly made it across the Zurich border – and even into 52 stores around the world. All well and good, this success, which unfortunately put paid to the idea of a lovingly produced one-off. Guya Marini and Carmen D’Apollonio pulled the handbrake on the globalization process – and have since concentrated on small series and custom-made work. The is fun again and really boosts inspiration. That’s why Ikou Tschüss immediately agreed to cooperate with the Helvetas Fairshop. The result: a collection of six pieces made entirely under fair conditions in Nepal and India from purely organic, GOTS certified cotton and Eri silk, in the production of which the silkworms are not thrown away but recycled. The collection “A Weekend with Ikou Tschüss”, consisting of a bag, two toiletry bags, a blanket, a T-shirt and a silk foulard in two colors, is now available in the Helvetas Fairshop . www.fairshop.helvetas.ch/schweizerdesign
Culture Clash
Afghanistan? War zone! What Generation Z doesn’t know: The sandwich country between Tajikistan and Pakistan was once the Mecca of backpackers and the flourishing trading center of the Silk Road. Having a purpose is what displaces the horror – and that is precisely why the EU is bringing Afghan artisans together with fashion labels through its Ethical Fashion Initiative. Right at the forefront: Zazi Vintage, the Dutch label that originated from a sketch of a dress on a napkin in a restaurant in Rajasthan, India. From the very beginning, keywords such as sustainability and fairness were more important to founder Jeanne de Kroon from than decorated shop windows and perfumed stores. Together with the Ethical Fashion Initiative, de Kroon aims to create new jobs by 2020 and thus a long-term livelihood for over 2,000 people from Afghanistan who have seen things a person should not see. The Zazi X EFI collection was created for this purpose by over 50 Afghans using traditional silk from Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. www.zazi-vintage.com
My only love
The stronger the sun shines, the less we wear. But before we take off this bracelet from Al Coro, let’s get rid of everything else. This piece of jewelry from the Palladio collection clings to the wrist like a love-struck date – and, unlike the latter, is a loyal companion for life. Al Coro, Palladio bangle with 57 brilliant-cut diamonds, approx. 5’630.-
