One of the most famous shoulder bags in the fashion world, the Fendi Baguette, is celebrating its 25th birthday. Birthday. The Fendi show at Fashion Week in New York was all about the legendary handbag. A tribute to the design icon and at the same time a trend-setter for the future.
“It was a special day when I designed this bag; the stars were aligned. The horoscope said it was a Fendi day.” The day Silvia Venturini Fendi designed the bag silhouette was 1997, and from then on her popularity grew steadily and literally exploded when Sarah Jessica Parker aka Carrie Bradshaw said the legendary line in Sex & The City: “It’s not a bag, it’s a baguette”.
“I didn’t want to make a traditional collection for the anniversary. Rather, it’s a celebration of a time when the baguette became famous. I associate that time with a sense of abundant freedom and fun – both qualities that the baguette possesses.” So says Kim Jones, the Artistic Director of Fendi.
To celebrate this milestone, Kim Jones collaborated with fellow designers such as Marc Jacobs, Tiffany & Co, Sarah Jessica Parker and Japanese luggage brand Porter on a collection that honors both the baguette and Fendi.
