For Cristal’s 150th anniversary, Champagne Louis Roederer presents the new 2018 vintage. A sun-drenched year that, thanks to extended ageing, gives this champagne a character all its own.
Cristal 2018 from Champagne Louis Roederer comes from the vineyards of the Domaine Cristal. The champagne is bottled in a crystal bottle with a flat base. It owes its name to this glass, which shows off its transparency and shimmer to perfection. According to Louis Roederer, the white chalk soils are especially crucial to its flavor. They lend the champagne its purity and a subtle saline note. Because 2018 was such a sunny year, the champagne tastes vibrant and exceptionally fresh. During production, 28% of the wine was aged in oak barrels. It was then left to mature for six to seven years—followed by another six to twelve months to rest.

Sunshine in the Glass
In the glass, Cristal 2018 appears brilliant with a golden shimmer and fine bubbles. On the nose, notes of nectarine, citrus, and orange blossom emerge, joined by smoky and vanilla undertones. On the palate, the Chardonnay brings freshness and energy, while the Pinot Noir lends a soft, dense texture. These are complemented by notes of cedarwood, menthol, and bergamot with white chocolate. Especially for Cristal’s 150th anniversary, the 2018 vintage reveals just how profoundly a champagne can be shaped by its year and its origin. Cristal 2018 is a vintage that unites tradition with a fresh new expression.
