The collection moves between two complementary expressions of the Elie Saab woman: the authority of downtown tailoring and the glamor of the uptown evening look. Elie Saab shapes the silhouette with architectural jackets with rounded shoulders, emphasized waists and pronounced hips. These are complemented by sculpted tulip or tube skirts and elongated pants, either extra long and straight cut or in a slim cigarette line. Made from wool, tweed and velvet in midnight black and charcoal tones, the tailoring conveys a clear urban elegance.
This structure is contrasted by a softer, more expressive side. Organza and chiffon play lightly around the body, while lace overlays enhance the sensuality of the pieces. Floral motifs, painted by hand on reflective leather, are reminiscent of the gestural brushstrokes of an artist’s canvas. The crocodile structure appears again and again – as polished leather and again on sequin tulle – and provides depth and surface play. Taffeta dresses with figure-hugging tops and short puffed skirts add sculptural volume, while wide ball gowns in stormy shades take the collection into an almost cinematic evening mood.
