FACES Trend Report: The 13 Top Trends for Spring/Summer 2027

Best Spring/Summer 2027 Trends

In an era shaped by existential exhaustion and relentless digital noise, the Spring/Summer 2027 season finds refuge in two seemingly opposing pleasures: the freedom of lightness and the thrill of excess. Sheer fabrics catch the wind, tailoring loosens its rules, and deliberate disorder challenges the over-polished uniformity of an increasingly artificial world. Silhouettes shift, with skirts taking centre stage—most notably at Prada, where all 63 runway looks featured a skirt. Then the mood turns to indulgence. Distressed denim, unconventional summer tweeds, lavish embellishment and glossy vinyl bring texture, friction and character. Bags go unapologetically wild, while footwear drifts into extravagant absurdity.

Here are our 13 top trends set to define Spring/Summer 2027.

1. The Pursuit of Lightness

Lightness comes in many forms, from sheer layers and fine pleats to billowing volume and softly gathered silhouettes. Fabrics expand and fall around the body, giving even intricate constructions room to breathe. Rick Owens delivers an unexpected fragility: a hauntingly soft, sheer dress in cream organza that shrugs off his signature gothic weight. At Issey Miyake, the Japanese concept of “Ma” lets air circulate between fabric and body.

2. The Colour Story

The season’s key colours capture its central contradiction: ice blue mirrors the calm of lightness, while vivid orange delivers the thrill of excess. One cools; the other electrifies. At Tod’s, Matteo Tamburini masters colour-blocking with ease, layering a crisp, bright orange shirt under an ivory open-knit top. Maximum impact, without trying too hard.

3. The Skirt Dictate

Trousers are pushed aside with the ruthless efficiency with which Henry VIII disposed of his wives. Skirts set the tone. Tailored cuts take every imaginable shape, panniers get a modern revival, and bubble hems refuse to retire. Slashed, fan-shaped hems—especially at Hermès—flash hidden underlayers with every step. Sharp, pure drama. Zero function.

4. Deconstructed Indigo

Denim has a far bigger presence than in recent seasons. The classic Canadian Tuxedo is taken apart through architectural layering and strategic cuts—an approach Ujoh executes to perfection. Denim micro-shorts pop up across countless runways, with some designers lending their daring proportions a surprising degree of refinement. Elsewhere, denim takes a distinctly more feminine turn, with lace, embroidery and dévoré inserts in raw denim—a contrast Dolce & Gabbana handles particularly well. And destroyed jeans? Apparently, the restraining order has expired. Like it or not: the rips are back.

5. The Top Themes

This season’s tops come with a decidedly limited fabric budget. Bralettes, bandeaus, bras and plunging necklines—some offer less coverage than a plaster. At Saint Laurent, Anthony Vaccarello gives the trend poetic depth with a structured halterneck bralette, embellished with dense gold bead embroidery and three-dimensional metallic textures. At Hermès, Nadège Vanhée presents a range of bandeau looks—most memorable of all, her styling of the house’s Carré Brise de Charme as a bandeau.

6. The Anti-Business Look

A calculated subversion runs through tailoring. Blazers, trousers and elongated gilets shed their boardroom stiffness—soft shoulders, roomier proportions. Classic pencil skirts sit lower on the hips, their rigid construction giving way to a fluid silhouette. At Chanel, the low-slung waist returns as a recurring styling cue, sharpened by contrast: wide, structured statement belts sit low on the hips, underscoring the relaxed cut and softened lines of tweed separates.

7. Anti-Romance

High-gloss vinyl cuts through the season’s softer mood, delivering the ultimate anti-romance aesthetic—Ceylor. At Miu Miu, it takes the form of a structured purple zip-up jacket, while Ferragamo goes even sleeker with a sheer, body-skimming olive sheath dress.

8. Tweed for Summer

Nothing says a sultry July quite like a fabric originally designed to withstand Scottish weather. Dolce & Gabbana, Thom Browne and Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel, however, make a compelling case for wearing tweed in 37-degree heat to lunch at Avenue Montaigne 41. They pull it off with lighter cuts and plenty of bare skin. The opulence of traditional tweed remains, but its weight and formality give way to cheeky proportions and an unmistakably summery attitude.

9. Anti–Less Is More

A glorious, unabashed abundance defines this season’s embellishment. Intricate three-dimensional beadwork, embroidery and hefty metal hardware turn minimalism into a punchline. The craftsmanship is undeniable. At Dolce & Gabbana, the Spring/Summer 2027 collection is positively dripping in decoration. Enamelled cameos, pearl-studded brooches, and tufts of ruby red, emerald green and sapphire blue crystals. The effect is wildly psychedelic. Not that we’d know—LSD back in the ’90s? We were just holding it for a friend.

10. Roses Are Red, Boring Floral Summer Dresses Are Dead

Floral prints range from nostalgic pop-art petals to darker, moodier botanicals—without leaning too hard on the classic spring-summer dress. At ABRA, delicate prints meet heavier fabrics and unexpected layered looks. TTSWTRS turns the tired cliché of spring florals into a visual highlight. True to the brand’s tattoo-inspired identity, a catsuit creates the illusion of botanicals inked directly onto bare skin—flowers that seem to bloom straight from the body.

11. Scales & Sequins

If you like the idea of looking like a chic, armoured armadillo at a cocktail party, this is your moment. Overlapping sequins and sculptural, rippled discs create scale-like surfaces that catch the light with every move. ANREALAGE’s “SKIN” collection takes it one step further—with E-Ink scales that change colour and pattern in real time.

12. Wild Things

Judging by the season’s must-have handbag trend, the front rows at the next Fashion Week could look like a zoo directors’ convention. Leopard spots, tiger stripes and python-effect surfaces replace understated neutrals with exotic prints. Fendi’s Baguette leans into fur-like textures, densely embroidered reptile motifs and leopard-print calfskin. Dior’s Cigale swaps its neutral tones for python-effect leather, while Chanel’s iconic flap bag trades its impeccable Park Avenue manners for apex markings.

13. Loud Excess?

Kitten-heel slides are making a comeback, but the real shoe story is all about unabashed excess. At Dolce & Gabbana, towering stiletto boots disappear under gold textures and jewel-encrusted clusters, delivering hyper-baroque extravagance. Chanel gives classic heels a playful twist with a glossy ace-of-spades motif, while Thom Browne turns pumps into surrealist beetles and Moschino introduces cartoonish, padded whimsy. A scandalous experiment in aesthetic provocation that cheerfully challenges our idea of good taste? Sure. But at least they’re not Crocs.

The Spring/Summer 2027 trends have something wonderfully defiant about them. Beneath the contrasts lies an invitation to mute the noise, escape the artificial, and rediscover fashion’s physical pleasure—a world that still has room for craftsmanship, imagination and even a little absurdity.
