First World Problem
Crying because trips to exotic places are temporarily canceled? Instead of using tissues like Donald Trump employees, we pull ourselves together and let the Piper publishing house explain to us how to stay at home properly. Globetrotting can wait, and our mileage account doesn’t starve if we don’t feed it for a while – instead, we explore our own city with the same vigor with which we usually mark out travel destinations on the world map. Molto bella
It’s better not to wander far afield this summer. Corona and all that, remember? Time to appreciate what is so close at hand. For example, the north of Italy, accessible by train or car and at least as beautiful as destinations for which we would otherwise have to put up with a lot of jet lag. 20 minutes from Santa Maria Novella train station in Florence is the coolest tree house we have ever seen. Host Elena is an architect – no wonder? – and has created accommodation here surrounded by trees and green meadows that is perfect for a break away from your own four walls. Inscribed slate panels, warm wood and industrial lamps merge into a stylish mix of bungalow and tree house, whose veranda makes balmy summer nights unforgettable. By the way: there is also a pool. Casa sull’Albero, Florence, Italy, three beds and one bathroom, via Airbnb, approx. 268.- per night

Adventureland
Mystical magic land. A halfway house between Iceland and Scotland. Or simply the place that is at the top of our bucket list: The Faroe Islands, a group of islands in the Atlantic Ocean. There, in the Bermuda Triangle between the Icelandic, Norwegian and British coasts, is the spot on earth that is home to 70,000 sheep, almost twice as many four-legged friends as humans. Of course, we don’t just want to go there because of the fluffy inhabitants, where the landscape takes our breath away more than a dip in the ice-cold water. Those responsible for tourism are aware of the fascination of their island and the difficult travel conditions (not only due to Corona). Their solution: remote tourism. Travel enthusiasts can steer a real tour guide with a helmet camera through the landscape via smartphone or computer. The slots last one hour and are set by the tourist office in the timetable; each user is allowed to chase the guide around the island for one minute. www.remote-tourism.com
34.7 %
According to Statista, the global tourism industry lost revenue of 265 billion dollars in 2020 due to Covid-19. This corresponds to a slump of 34.7% compared to the previous year. Italy has been hit the hardest in an international comparison and, according to estimates, will almost halve its income from tourism this year to 11 billion dollars.
