Satellites miss nothing. They are our silent observers and the ones who see the big picture. By analyzing images from space, the company Huqvarna, a professional in forestry, landscape and garden maintenance, has chosen the greenest cities in the world. 177 cities in 60 countries were examined and placed on or next to the podium based on their vegetation. The American city of Charlotte is currently at the top of the list, ahead of Durban in South Africa and Vilnius in Lithuania. With Dortmund, Stuttgart, Hamburg and Würzburg, four German cities make it into the top ten of the index, with Zurich just missing out in eleventh place. hugsi.green

Traveling by train has its very own magic. Monisha Rajesh has seen many: the high-speed train from Shanghai to Beijing, commuter trains on the Côte d’Azur or the Toy Train in the Himalayas. She has now compiled her most fascinating journeys and the most beautiful routes in a book. “Zugvögel” is a tribute to train travel and a treat for anyone who gets excited by the rattling of a train and the whistling of a locomotive. Dear uncle
The ridge on the mountain is narrow. We’re not talking about the one between the piste and the abyss, but the fine line that separates après-ski tastelessness from cool Alpine chic. Uncle Jack’s tropicALPS Lifestyle Hotel manages to turn the corner and does so with ease. The hotel in Flachau, Austria, which will reopen in December 2021 after a complete renovation, combines coziness and coolness without being kitschy. It’s all about ending the day in a hoodie and cozy socks after fun on the slopes and feeling like kings and queens of the mountains. The hotel has just ten rooms and apartments right on the slopes, just 150 meters from the nearest lift. In addition to the uncomplicated dining concept, the chilled atmosphere that would make even a Shaolin monk slow down a few more beats, and the JungleSPA with organic sauna, Uncle Jack’s sustainability concept is particularly impressive. The existing building was clad with traditional wooden shingles by regional craftsmen, the hotelier family upholds resource- and energy-saving measures, and the Flachau ski resort also feeds its facilities entirely from renewable energy sources. If you’re still missing arguments for a trip to the Salzburg mountains, we can’t help you either.
