January – the longest, most exhausting, soul-sucking month of the year, when I deliberately dissociate. Sub-zero temperatures in Zurich, a sad bank account and the harsh reality of going back to work – like a primitvling. And as if that wasn’t enough, I also have to pretend to take part in Dry January. With my jam-packed itinerary for the upcoming fashion week season grinning at me from my email inbox and only a few days left until Men’s Fashion Week in Paris, I began searching for accommodation with little enthusiasm. Paris in January will test your love for this city. And even as I kept revisiting my iPhone’s weather app like a madwoman constantly shaking a Magic 8-ball, the arctic temperatures remained stubbornly in the forecast.
Well, if I have to freeze in Paris, at least I can do so in unrestricted luxury. So let me introduce you to the Hotel Prince de Galles – a place that makes winter in Paris a privilege. Because let’s face it, it’s much easier to sulk about the endless bitterly cold winters in Europe when you’re cozy in a five-star hotel. Plus: What to wear to stay stylish in Paris during the frosty season (and not look like Deadpool’s dog ).
Hotel Prince de Galles Paris
A symbol of Parisian luxury, the Prince de Galles stands proudly on Avenue George V, just a few minutes from the Champs-Élysées. Since 1929, this Art Deco masterpiece has welcomed icons such as Winston Churchill, Marlene Dietrich and Michael Jackson. As part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection, the 159 rooms and 43 suites combine historic splendor with modern sophistication.

Every corner exudes elegance, from the sophisticated interior design to the unparalleled service. The Prince de Galles is more than a hotel, it is a gateway to timeless Parisian glamor – an invitation to experience the city’s most exclusive and impeccable sophistication in the heart of the fashion capital.

The employees seem to have to have a degree in psychology – how else can they instinctively respond to each personality with seamless precision? Honestly, does Marriott hire newly minted psychotherapists? Every interaction felt so intuitive that I was expecting the question “And how does that make you feel?”.
My room – The Chambre Art Déco Deluxe
It’s no secret – I’m unapologetically obsessed with full-length mirrors. Forget the minibar (that’s priority #2); my first instinct is to track down a full-length mirror like a prescription addict looking for Oxy.

The Chambre Art Déco Deluxe is a masterpiece. Not one, not two, but three full-length mirrors! At last I could breathe again without hyperventilating into a paper bag. Dark precious wood, cream and gold bed linen, Parisian grandeur – opulence in every detail.

The bathroom: opulent, undisguised luxury, gleaming mirrors, polished wood, gilded mosaics – pure indulgence with artistic flair.
Dinning at the Prince de Galles
My Travel Trauma No. 93: Pierre Le Snob – the epitome of a Parisian maître d’. He can be found not only in the city’s chic restaurants, but also in most cafés and bistros, where the mere act of breathing in English (or worse, ordering vegetarian food) is met with pure disdain.
The Prince de Galles Paris has two first-class restaurants: Akira Back and Norbert Tarayre’s Restaurant & Bar 19.20 – both offer an all-round special experience with their own charm and design, as well as great vegan and vegetarian options and an inspiring working atmosphere. And despite all the opulence: there’s no Pierre Le Snob here. Instead, the service is impeccable and the atmosphere effortlessly sophisticated.
Akira Back
Hotel breakfast is served at Akira Back; both a classic continental selection and the full American delight as well as an à la carte menu. There are numerous vegetarian and vegan options. And if something is not on the menu, it will be prepared. However, a tequila and ginger shot for breakfast is apparently frowned upon… But here I am, forced to sit up at this ungodly hour – sunglasses firmly in place, my signature Aymara red lip and a mimosa in hand – recovering from another all-nighter at Costes, forced to witness fashion choices that hurt my eyes. And watching millionaire idiots photograph their omelettes, no doubt destined for social media. Meanwhile, across the room, four-year-old billionaire children are screaming about their five-star breakfasts. And yet somehow this spectacle is socially acceptable, while tequila for breakfast is frowned upon? Eh bon.

And yet, despite my early morning reluctance, Akira Back remains irresistibly chic – an avant-garde haven for stylish dining where Japanese innovation meets Korean flair. Sleek, contemporary and decidedly fashionable, each dish is a visual and sensory delight worthy of #foodporn.
Restaurant & Bar 19.20 from Norbert Tarayre
Restaurant & Bar 19.20 by Norbert Tarayre – a place where classic chic meets creative sophistication. Here, timeless elegance and culinary passion merge to create an experience that is as stylish as it is relaxed. Perfect for connoisseurs who love first-class cuisine in an ambience full of charm and character.

A little tip: reserve a table early at Akira Back here and for Restraurant & Bar 19.20 here.
In-Room Dining
Room service is my religion. There’s just something wonderful about lounging in a bathrobe and sipping tea. Okay, I’m lying. It’s actually champagne. Shame is for sinners, and in Paris, champagne at any time of day is not a crime – it’s mandatory. Breakfast can be ordered the night before with the classic multiple choice menu that you hang on the door outside, or for the digital natives: simply scan the QR code and put everything together as you wish.
More than just a hotel

What to wear in Paris in January – A fashionable declaration of love to winter
Paris is a playground for everyone who lives and breathes fashion – here, getting dressed is not a routine, but a daily adrenaline rush. And let’s be honest, trop habillé? That’s an English concept. Dress to impress – because presence is everything, and fashion regret is never chic.
Enter like a diva
A floor-length (ideally faux) fur coat. And not as protection against the cold – the coat is a statement, a drama statement, an appearance in itself.

Monochrome perfection and timeless tweed whisper Parisian chic, while sharp cuts, luxurious fabrics and sculptural silhouettes transform quiet confidence into pure art.

Oversized statement sunglasses are a must

Casual lunch date
You’re in Paris – so please, don’t embarrass yourself. Dress properly for lunch dates. Oversized knitwear, sophisticated cuts and effortless nonchalance are the unspoken dress code. Cozy textures, soft neutrals and rich winter tones make even the simplest outfit editorial-worthy.

Casual Dinner
For relaxed dinner dates in the city of chic: go for effortless elegance with a touch of edge – delicate lace, structured cuts, off-shoulder moments, eye-catching prints and sleek monochrome. Pure femininity with self-confidence and l’attitude chic.

Complete the look with effortless elegance: throw an oversized blazer over your outfit, where flowing draping meets structured finesse and bold cuts flirt with delicate fabrics or dramatic prints. Because in Paris, nonchalance is just another way of being chic.

Elegant dinner – Parisian style
Luxury dining in Paris means sharing the limelight – with none other than the glittering Eiffel Tower. So dress in such a way that it only becomes decoration in your photos. A look that masters the perfect play of textures and silhouettes: flowing cuts, delicate layers and deep jewel tones – the trend colors for winter 2025. Lace, gentle movement and precise cuts complete the whole.

A look starts from the bottom
Heels with ankle straps or pointed stilettos for the power walk.

Crocodile-embossed knee-high boots for the brave and casually gathered overknee statement boots for those who really want to make an entrance.
