It’s spring. The birds are chirping, the plants are sprouting. And what should not be missing at this time of year? Exactly: spring cleaning.
Honestly, who really likes cleaning? Except Monica Geller in “Friends”. Mopping, vacuuming, polishing – just the thought of this work makes us want to stay in bed and dream of a self-cleaning home. Now, however, thanks to Corona, the ceiling is slowly falling on our heads and we can no longer see the dust on the picture frames, the full paper containers and the shoes lying around. So get off your butt and scrub the pots from yesterday’s feast that are still in the sink?
Cleaning has wonderful side effects that we need for our salvation at the moment: Firstly, it is an activity that takes our mind off things for a while. We are actively taking control – if we can’t do this with the world, we can at least do it with our own four walls. Secondly, cleaning is also a small workout that uses all the muscles in our body. Scrubbing all surfaces, stretching for cobwebs or chasing after the last speck of dust burns at least as many calories as working out in the gym.
What’s more, you often come across long-forgotten treasures when tidying, moving, shifting, sorting and reorganizing. Then you discover that beautiful blue summer dress from your vacation in Italy at the very back of your wardrobe. A ten-year-old love letter is found in the shoebox under the bed. Perfect for reminiscing.
We are forced to spend most of our time temporarily within our own four walls. We work from home. We always eat in the same place. We see the same surroundings 24 hours a day. That’s why it’s all the more important that we feel comfortable in our home and can make ourselves at home. This is more difficult in a dirty environment.
And now let’s get down to brass tacks: how many of us want to have to do our spring cleaning when we can hang out with friends in a pub again or enjoy a day at the lake? Nobody wants to waste a thought on their calcified bathroom tiles.
That’s why: Let’s put on our favorite music, pour the cleaning agent into the bucket, put on our rubber gloves and get started. There’s nothing better than lying in a freshly showered bed at the end of a hard day’s cleaning. In the knowledge that the dirt from the last few weeks is out. Everything feels like new.
