Not an Acne Studios top – she’s not wearing one. Sofia Grahn is a Swedish influencer who doesn’t promote clothes, but rather pimples on her back and scars on her face. And that takes courage.
Flawless is boring – it’s easy to say: Sofia sprouts her first pimples at the age of ten and is not spared the puberty curse that follows, but she doesn’t think it’s half as bad. She has to go through it. To realize in her mid-20s that acne is not just for teenagers. Avoids snacking, smears expensive skincare on her face for the cat. Reluctantly, but off to the dermatologist: the miracle product dries out – cheeks like the Sahara – and there’s nothing left that can’t be covered with a good dose of foundation. The beauty ideal of flawless facial skin drives the student crazy, almost literally, until a hashtag teaches her better: #skinpositivity shows lots of unfiltered photos of pimples & co. – The Swede’s jaw drops. Skin problems are apparently normal. That was around 2018, when the skin positivity movement picked up speed and took Sofia with it. Well: a second account is needed, it’s impossible for her to show herself naked to her inner circle. She then unveils her cheeks to the entire Instagram community and will soon be encouraging hundreds of thousands of people to accept their skin as it is. Because it’s not that simple, is it?
