Outdoor boot camps are booming. Anyone looking for alternatives to burpees, squats and the like will find what they’re looking for at Lucky Punch: In front of Zurich’s Club Hive, fists are swung 18 times a week.
Tired of corona? Sport helps, as does letting out frustration. It’s cool if we can combine the two. In Zurich, we do this at Lucky Punch, the boxing community that was newly hatched last year. What began in the club on Langstrasse has now developed into a hyped outdoor workout. Instead of on the dance floor, boxing now takes place in the fresh air: right by Zurich’s Hardbrücke in front of the currently closed Hive. Thanks to the party music, which motivates the speakers to perform at their best via headphones out of consideration for the neighbors, a club atmosphere is nevertheless created. Lucky Punch founder Chris Velkovski lets boxing newbies and fitness fans hit the bags here several times a week. In between, there are fitness exercises to strengthen the muscles that are particularly stressed during boxing. The concept works – and attracts at least as many enthusiasts to Hardbrücke every week as the Hype-Gelateria 50 meters away. Velkovski now offers 18 sessions – and just like in the club, the people of Zurich are queuing up for them.
