Valentino fall/winter 2026/27 – Confidently into the future

Valentino has been a fixture at Paris Fashion Week since its Paris debut in 1973. For the Valentino Autumn/Winter 2026/27 collection, however, Creative Director Alessandro Michele moved the stage back to Rome to honor the House’s roots – the city where Valentino Garavani founded the Maison in 1960. The show, entitled Interferenze, took place on March 12 in the historic Palazzo Barberini. Michele uses this moment to explore tensions between tradition and rupture, elegance and exaggeration, and order and disruption.

Valentino Fall/Winter 2026/27 Collection

The idea of interferenze characterizes the entire collection. Alessandro Michele uses it to describe the clash of different aesthetic forces within the House of Valentino. Historical codes, tailoring and decorative elements overlap and create a tension between order and excess. Although womenswear and menswear run parallel and share the same decorative language and similar tailoring codes, they remain clearly distinguishable from one another.

Womenswear

Womenswear balances structure and opulence. Leather jackets and furs add a dramatic presence, while sculptural jackets and flowing dresses shape the silhouette. Pleated tunics, sequins, lace and jewel-colored velvets are layered over the looks, creating a dense surface of ornamentation. Transparency, embellishments and soft draping move between elegance and theatrical excess.

Menswear

The menswear initially appears more restrained, but is by no means boring. Soft tailoring, high-waisted pleated pants and long coats create elongated silhouettes that move with ease. The color palette remains predominantly muted – anthracite, camel and olive – punctuated by pops of color in scarves and knit layers. Satin belts, draped necklines and textured fabrics nevertheless bring Michele’s decorative signature into play.

Valentino Red

One element remains surprisingly restrained throughout the collection: Valentino Red. As the show is ultimately also a tribute to the late Valentino Garavani, one might expect the iconic color to dominate the runway. Instead, it only appeared selectively – in a silk skirt, as a brief glimpse of knee-high boots under layered looks, in Rockstud heels, as an accent in the menswear and finally in the closing dress.

After a season in which several designers at traditional houses seemed unsure of themselves and relied heavily on archive references, Michele chooses a different path – and it’s refreshing. He acknowledges Valentino’s legacy, but doesn’t let it define the entire collection. Interferenze thus becomes more than just a poetic title; it describes Michele’s willingness to put his own signature in dialog with the codes of the house. Instead of copying the past, Michele places it alongside his own vision – and in doing so, hints at a confident future for Valentino.
