Tommy Hilfiger staged his Spring/Summer 2027 collection at the legendary Plaza Hotel in Manhattan. Titled “Plaza Prep,” the show took place at a New York landmark that seems almost tailor-made for nostalgia. The gilded splendor of the Plaza and the old-world glamour of Uptown evoke a New York where music played at the Birdland Jazz Club after dark, and a time when the legendary FAO Schwarz department store still stood across from the hotel on Fifth Avenue. The collection itself wanders even further afield. Sun-kissed colors, loose-fitting knitwear, bucket hats, and airy silhouettes transport the imagination westward, to the twilight of Santa Monica and the Pacific Ocean stretching beyond Malibu. Then the casual sportswear, the college styles, and the quintessentially American red white, and blue direct our gaze back east, toward the Fourth of July fireworks over Sag Harbor—a vision of the American summer that feels less like a memory and more like something that still lies ahead.
Classic Ivy League elements remain front and center: chinos, Oxford shirts, polo shirts, and rugby shirts are given a looser fit, while asymmetrical tops and skirts, flowing dresses, and casual layered looks soften the preppy style. The “Tommy Girl” retains her rebellious streak, while the men’s collection remains distinctly masculine with a “trust-fund preppy brat” attitude. The collection also draws on the brand’s longstanding connection to 1990s streetwear and music culture. Oversized silhouettes and logo details evoke the era when Tommy Hilfiger moved beyond the preppy style and embraced a broader youth-oriented aesthetic. Rounded, two-tone skate sneakers, oversized tote bags, and top-handle East-West bags keep the tension between polished and casual firmly in play.
