Paris Fashion Week, the grand finale of the fashion week season. Every season brings new, unexpected dramas and highlights. Paris Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2024 was no exception, with unforeseen interruptions, stolen collections, poignant farewells and groundbreaking catwalk experiences. Of the four major fashion capitals (New York, London, Milan and Paris), Paris has the largest number of celebrities. That means drama and subtle feuds. It’s impossible to get a reservation for a restaurant in the celebrity hotspots, let alone get into one of the clubs teeming with stars.
Here are our highlights:
Hermès – Bryanboy saves the show
A PETA protester disrupted the Hermès Spring-Summer 2024 show in Paris and called on the label to stop using exotic furs. Thanks to the quick reaction of Bryanboy, who grabbed the protest sign, the show was able to continue seamlessly without the event being interrupted. Guess who secured a place in the front row…

Balmain – It fell off the truck
In a car theft near Charles de Gaulle airport, a truck carrying 50 pieces for the Balmain show at Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2024 was stolen. However, creative director Olivier Rousteing made sure that the show was held on the 27th. September could take place as planned and the collection was well received despite the setback.

Alexander McQueen – Bittersweet farewell
Sarah Burton takes her leave as creative director of Alexander McQueen, ending an era that began in 2010 after the tragic loss of the eponymous founder. Her journey with the brand began in the mid-1990s, which is why her farewell is bittersweet.

Balenciaga – a family affair
Demna presented a provocative Balenciaga Spring Summer 2024 collection featuring influential people from his life as models, including his mother Ella, who opened the show, Diane Pernet, Kim Kardashian, Amanda Lepore, Cathy Horyn and Robin Meason. The runway ended with a stunning wedding gown composed of seven Balenciaga gowns from before 2000, worn by Demna’s husband BFRND.

Undercover: a terrarium dream
Renowned Japanese fashion designer Jun Takahashi created a spooky, enchanting atmosphere with his undercover collection for spring/summer 2024, aptly named “Deep Mist”, which was shown during Paris Fashion Week. The most eye-catching pieces from the Undercover spring-summer 2024 collection closed the show. Takahashi presented three magnificent dresses, each decorated with terrariums full of roses and delicate butterflies.

Dior – “Been There, Done That, Not Going Back”
Dior’s Spring – Summer 2024 prêt-à-porter show set a new standard for catwalk experiences. Maria Grazia Chiuri, known for her penchant for collaborating with artists to create stunning show spaces, did not disappoint this time either. This season, Chiuri teamed up with artist Elena Bellantoni to create a tongue-in-cheek catwalk with a clear, bold message: “This is not her. She’s not all that anymore.” Guests were surrounded by video installations that covered the walls with an analog split-flap device, creating a unique visual experience. Taking center stage were reimagined female figures from pop art that challenged stereotypes from sexist advertising with counterpoint phrases. The backdrop was a mixture of nostalgia and defiance, showing old advertisements from the patriarchal mid-20th century. Slogans such as “Save your marriage, iron right” set the stage for a transformative catwalk experience. The perfect backdrop for Dior to present a collection that evoked the essence of feminism and invoked its founding principles.

…and the viral moments?
Kim Kardashian VS Anna Wintour. What’s with the Kardashian clan this season? In Milan, Kylie Jenner arrived late to the Dolce & Gabbana show, causing a 47-minute delay to the start of the show. In Paris, Kim Kardashian reportedly tested the patience of the unimpressed Anna Wintour at Victoria Beckham’s Spring-Summer 2024 ready-to-wear. Kim, the guest of honor at Beckham’s show, arrived late, which led to a delayed start of the show. This visibly annoyed the usually punctual Vogue editor-in-chief. When Kim took her seat next to Wintour, it was obvious that Wintour was anything but pleased, as she acted ice-cold and pointedly ignored Kim. The show started almost an hour late, prompting Wintour to leave for another appointment before Victoria Beckham’s final bow. Despite conflicting reports about their interactions, this fashion faux pas has become the talk of the town, with memes and videos going viral on the internet. Lisa Armstrong, the fashion editor of The Telegraph, left no doubt when she shared an Instagram video showing Cate Blanchett and Robert Downey Jr. at the event. Your caption: “Proper celebrities … who manage to get to the fashion shows on time (along with Florence Pugh), unlike others I could mention but won’t because this is a Kardashian-free zone. Oops.“
No clubbing for Brooklyn and Nicola.Brooklyn Beckham (24) and his wife Nicola Peltz (28) were allegedly denied entry to a flashy Parisian nightclub during Fashion Week. The couple, who married last year, were turned away by tight security at popular celebrity hotspot Raspoutine, according to a clip posted by @celebsinparis. After a brief back and forth with the bouncers, Brooklyn was told they couldn’t enter the club, even though it was just after 2:30am – well before the nightclub’s closing time of 5:30am. Paris can be so mean…
Look at the A-listers…
At Louis Vuitton, numerous celebrities sat in the front row, including Louis Vuitton Men’s Creative Director Pharrell Williams, Jaden Smith, Serena Williams and Zendaya. Among those present at Dior were ambassador Charlize Theron, Rachel Ziegler and Robert Pattinson. Alek Wek, Hailey Bieber, Kate Moss, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jerry Hall with Georgia May Jagger and Demi Moore made a spectacular appearance at the Eiffel Tower and secured their front row seats at Yves Saint Laurent. And at The Row, Pamela Anderson and Kaia Gerber showed off their best minimalist ensembles. Celebrities such as Emilia Clarke, Penélope Cruz and Usher were present at Chanel’s SS24 show. Valentino’s front row included esteemed guests such as Florence Pugh and Leslie Mann. Robert Downey Jr. and Cate Blanchett were in a playful mood in the front row at Stella McCartney, and the Hilton sisters Paris and Nicky were also among the A-list celebrities who attended the Stella McCartney show. Jared Leto made regular appearances at Givenchy, while rapper Tyga was also in attendance. The famous Cher came with her boyfriend Alexander Edwards, who is 40 years her junior. There’s nothing like true love…
And of course the pièce de résistance
What would fashion week be without the Kardashians showing off their trademark “fashionably late”? Kendall Jenner walked the catwalk for Schiaparelli and Victoria Beckham and was spotted in the front row at The Row. Kylie Jenner sat front row at Schiaparelli. Kris Jenner magically appears everywhere, from Loewe to Valentino to Lisa Rinna’s dinner party at the laid-back Tekés restaurant. Kris Jenner has a way of making everything look effortlessly chic. It appears out of nowhere and disappears just as quickly.
