Issey Miyake has once again proven that fashion can be more than just clothing – it can be art, a concept that is constantly changing. Under the creative direction of Satoshi Kondo, the Issey Miyake Fall/Winter 2025/26 collection plays with the boundaries between sculpture and wearable fashion. Inspired by Erwin Wurm’s way of reinterpreting everyday objects, this collection invites us to see clothes with different eyes.
The Issey Miyake Fall/Winter 2025/26 Collection
The designs defy categorization. The Knit (As It Is) range uses seamless knitting technology to create flowing, almost sculptural shapes that emphasize the relationship between body and garment. Knit (As Represented) goes one step further and plays with 2D and 3D perception by printing high-resolution images of the knitted pieces as prints on fabrics. With the Like Torso Like Shirt and Like Torso Like Blazer, clothing becomes a sculpture – with washi paper yarn for a rough surface and stretch materials for a flexible fit. Function also meets avant-garde design here. The Odd Shirt can be made into different shapes with different button variations so that each person can style it individually. The Paper Bag series transforms a simple paper bag into a wearable work of art – including prints of imaginary exhibition posters. And then there is Panini, a knitwear collection in which heat-pressed wool and alpaca fibers are given a completely new, stiff structure that moves between softness and hardness.
While many designers cling nostalgically to the past, Issey Miyake shows once again how fashion can shape the future. By playfully dissolving boundaries and conventions, Satoshi Kondo brings a collection to the catwalk that not only redefines clothing, but also questions the relationship between fashion, art and the wearer.
