How do I buy a vintage watch?

Vintage has charm. This is due to the stories that second-hand pieces bring with them, their patina and the enduring idea of continuing to cherish what you already love. When it comes to fashion, there are various ways to shop second-hand, but how on earth do we manage to buy a vintage watch without putting our foot in our mouth? We have the answers to all your questions.

What types of vintage watches are there?

A vintage watch is not just a timepiece. You need to know what you’re into. Mechanical or automatic movement? Digital or analog display? Leather or steel bracelet? Look unabashedly at the wrist of others and shape your taste and style.

Where can I find the largest selection of vintage models?

Do you have a rough idea of what you like? Wonderful! Then it’s time to find the right model for you. Clicking through all the websites of major watch manufacturers takes time and requires a lot of perseverance. Make it easy for yourself and click through the Bucherer catalog, which, as the world’s largest retailer of luxury watches, also brings together all the major watch brands in its Certified Pre-Owned range.

Vintage watch vs. pre-owned watch

What is the difference between a vintage and a pre-owned watch?

If you put the magnifying glass on the word “vintage”, in technical jargon it actually refers to watches that were manufactured before 1970. The models in Bucherer’s CPO range are on average between ten and 15 years old and are therefore referred to as pre-owned watches.

Where can I go offline?

The service in the boutiques is part of the experience when buying a pre-owned watch. Our number 1 address: the Bucherer boutique. Whether in Munich, Düsseldorf or on Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse, Bucherer’s stores are true design objects in their own right, captivating you with their architecture and interiors.

How do I buy a vintage watch?
It doesn’t always have to be brand new: a vintage watch has that certain magic, that past life that makes this piece of jewelry particularly interesting.

The unfounded fear of the bouncer

How do I get past the bouncer?

Fear of contact? You don’t have to. Every watch fan is welcome at Bucherer. What feels to you like checking in at Berghain is actually a pure security measure. Who can blame Bucherer? After all, there are a large number of new and worn watches in the store – and they need to be protected accordingly.

How do I behave in the store?

Just as friendly as everywhere else. The experts at Bucherer will help you find the right watch for you. The range of pre-owned watches is constantly expanding. Have a glass of champagne served, stroll through the chic room and take as much time as you need.

The entire range is available at Bucherer.com

What do I do if I can’t find what I’m looking for locally?

Online at Bucherer.com you will find the entire range of pre-owned watches at Bucherer. Click through the range on the website regularly or browse through the weekly newsletter, in which the latest models are presented every Friday. Then conveniently order them at a Bucherer boutique near you and view the piece on site before you strap it to your wrist for good.

What is a CPO watch?

CPO is the abbreviation for Certified-Pre-Owned and describes a certified watch from previous ownership. Bucherer refurbishes luxury watches from previous ownership in order to put them back on sale. Certified watchmakers check their reference and serial number, thus guaranteeing the authenticity of the watches. They also check all functions and ensure that the watches are running perfectly. Where necessary, they overhaul the models before giving them a two-year international Bucherer guarantee. This way, you can be sure that you are not buying a pig in a poke and you have the option of bringing your watch to a Bucherer boutique for servicing at any time.

Why should I buy my pre-owned watch from Bucherer?

Bucherer is a traditional Swiss company with a family history dating back to 1888. The family-owned company is the world’s largest seller of luxury watches – both new and previously owned. Bucherer works with the best specialists, has access to original spare parts and guarantees the authenticity of your vintage watch as well as a two-year guarantee during which you have access to all services. In addition, Bucherer is a certified and official CPO partner of Rolex worldwide and, exclusively in Switzerland, of Cartier and, most recently, Breitling.

Rolex, Cartier, Breitling, Chopard, Omega or Jaeger-LeCoultre? Bucherer buys watch models from the most important watch brands, refurbishes them and sells them as Certified Pre-Owned watches to watch fans who are addicted to the vintage charm.
Here you will find the entire range, in the Bucherer boutiques the concentrated experience.
