The Chanel Spring-Summer 2027 collection marks a transition from romantic allure to unabashed passion. The press release for the new launch begins with Gabrielle Chanel reflecting on the child she once was—the girl whose plans, preferences, and high standards she ultimately fulfilled. Matthieu Blazy expands on this idea of “the women within a woman”: identities that shift, overlap, and occasionally contradict one another, without negating what came before.
This complexity is built into the clothing. Edwardian corset elements are more of a hint than a rule: shadow-like boning, peplums, ruffled collars, and curved tops reappeared in more relaxed silhouettes. Masculine cuts are incorporated into vests, pants, and pencil-skirt suits with raw edges, while sequined, asymmetrical, and knitted evening gowns are designed to be so light that they move like T-shirts.
Although black is present, it never dictates the mood. Color, transparency, embroidery, and cloud-like layers of silk lend the collection a sense of lightness and joy, while Blazy’s recurring theme of freedom is reflected in the lightness and movement of the garments. The tweed takes on a looser fit, making the traditional suit appear less formal without losing its identity.
