Food News 1: Puro Amore
Why do orecchiette taste so much better down there in the south of Italy than on our kitchen table? Because Italians celebrate beauty and give their food the setting it deserves with pretty ceramics. Thanks to Melanie and Larissa and their own label Atélier Ceramore, we can bring beautiful plates, bowls and jugs with the typical Apulian polka dots into our kitchens.

Food News 2: Best Cut
At some point, the time has come to spend more money on a kitchen knife than on the latest Xbox. Fair enough, then you’re probably over 30 and prefer to spend Saturday evenings at the stove rather than at the disco. One item for which we have now taken on the desperate squealing of our piggy bank: the pocket knife from Sknife, which is made entirely from corrosion-resistant Damascus steel with over 1,600 layers, from the blade to the handle scales. The chic piece is manufactured in Biel, Switzerland, where fans are welcome to look over the shoulders of the professionals during production.

Food News 3: Soul Sister
If you don’t know Alison Roman, you’ve missed out. Roman is the Pippi Longstocking of the kitchen and the Ronja the Robber’s Daughter of haute cuisine. Red nail polish instead of a chef’s hat, George Michael T-shirt instead of an apron: The New Yorker cooks the way we do for friends. And she is at least as entertaining as the whole squad of stand-up comedians in Big Apple’s underground. What Roman puts on the table is genuine and has nothing to do with overly fancy recipes that you have to consult the dictionary to understand. Now our favorite cook is launching a new book: “Sweet Enough” promises desserts that the clique will be raving about for a long time to come.
Alison Roman, “Sweet Enough. A Dessert Cookbook,” Random House N.Y., ca. 37.-
