Talent and luck go hand in hand. This is actually always the case and even more so in photography, when the moment has to be right, the light, the subject and the idea that ignites in the mind of the creative and pops as fireworks in the final photo. photoSCHWEIZ brings them all together, the witnesses of our time who capture what moves them and our society. The photographs can be seen from 6 to 10 September. January 2023 in Zurich-Oerlikon and as an amuse bouche with us.

Mahalia taje giotto
A name like a melody and a life like a rollercoaster ride: Mahalia Giotto aka Taje was born with a gender that Taje herself could never identify with. Today, Taje describes himself as a non-binary person. The process of finding one’s identity, the ups and downs associated with it and the position on gender issues in society influence Taje’s work. She wants to inspire other people to live according to their own expectations and wishes.

Éloïse Genoud
You always look twice at Éloïse Genoud’s photos. The ambiguity is what makes her works so fascinating; they are both innocent and razor-sharp at the same time. No wonder, then, that she has been given a warm welcome at the L’école cantonale d’art de Lausanne, where she is currently studying for a bachelor’s degree in visual communication.

Nikolai Frerichs
Man, nature and reality merge in the maelstrom of life and form the basis of Nikolai Frerich’s work. The German, who has just successfully completed his Master’s degree at ECAL in Lausanne, has found his hobbyhorse in CGI and tailors his images with a very individual eye for light, texture and composition.

Fabian Scheidegger
The board is like Fabian Scheidegger’s extended arm. Whether it’s snow or road, the Bernese Oberland or the asphalt of Los Angeles, skate and surf culture is deeply rooted in the Swiss soul. No wonder, he combines his passions and adds another one on top with the music of Nick Cave. Three birds with one stone, so to speak.

Hussein Alusch
From the pasture into a flurry of flashbulbs. This or something similar could be used to summarize Hussein Alusch’s career, who first earned his living as a shepherd in Turkey and now works as a designer and photographer in Zurich. When photographing, he always remembers his roots, which shape his view of the world just as much as social and political circumstances shape his images.

Benjamin Freedman
If you ask Benjamin Freedman for his definition of photography, he speaks of a form of pseudo-archaeology. Instead of using a brush and chisel, however, Freedman sets off in search of inspiration with his camera, digging until new insights illuminate his mind.

The Bad Conscience aka T.B.C.
The photos of The Bad Conscience are like a drumbeat. The duo not only find their inspiration in their personal environment, but also their models. A go go creativity flows through the veins of T.B.C., where it mixes with a charming sense of humor and a heartbeat of anarchism.

Iris Brosch
Women are heroines. What Iris Brosch herself embodies – as a 58-year-old fashion photographer, she is a rare plant in the industry – also forms the basis of her photography. The inspiration for her current series: the black Madonna in Einsiedeln Abbey, which takes a completely new feminist-diverse position on the modern confrontation with the Catholic Church.

Lola Álvarez
Lola Álvarez’s home? The world. Born in Switzerland with Spanish roots, Álvarez studied in London, lived in the USA and Canada and on other continents, the list of which goes beyond the scope of this article. For her current work, she lured fishermen in Palma in front of her camera, whose faces tell more stories than their mouths ever could.
