The FACES: Our heroes and heroines of the month

The Faces – These are the people we are celebrating particularly loudly this month: Yves Tumor, Brenda Weischer,Nicholas Hoult, Yasmin Finney, Ashnikko, Daniel Lee, Angel Reese, Matt Rife, Cosima Gadient & Christa Bösch, Thurstan Redding.

Yves Tumor – Godsent

David Bowie, Prince and Kurt Cobain put their heads together in the Great Green Room of the afterlife and sent us the perfect pop star in Yves Tumor. The details of this theory are to be worked out by theological institutes. We are busy worshipping the new album “Praise a Lord Who Chews but Which Does Not Consume”. The artist, who commutes between Miami and Turin, presents himself as radically vulnerable and consistently supernatural.

Brenda Weischer – Black White Gold

Brenda Weischer paints exclusively in black and white for her own wardrobe and home furnishings. The fashion influencer also avoids gray areas, writing plain text as brendahashtag. She has made a few enemies in the scene. But also: quite a lot of credibility. Also because her roles as curator of the exclusive second-hand online store Disruptive Berlin and Fashion Editor at 032c show that she knows what works.

Nicholas Hoult – Eye-catching

The boy from “About a Boy” has grown up. And a psycho (“The Menu”). And a zombie (“Warm Bodies”). And a literary genius (“Tolkien”). No, two (“Rebel in the Rye”)! And what’s next? As the servant of Nic Cage’s Dracula, he does the dirty work of the vampire count (“Renfield”). Nicholas Hoult’s acting career is a whirlwind of world history and the fantastic. Always in the eye of the storm? That icy look.

Yasmin Finney – Doctor Whow!

In the UK, the sci-fi series “Doctor Who” is more sacred than the crown jewels. For the upcoming 60th anniversary season, the new Time Lord is keeping up with the times and has the newcomer of the hour at his side as his assistant: Yasmin Finney once eloquently described her everyday life as a trans woman in England on social media. She later became an audience favorite in Netflix’s “Heartstopper” and recently became YSL’s first British brand ambassador.

Ashnikko – Planet Blue

Like Shibuya City on two legs, Ashnikko is currently at the center of the pop world: the singer and rapper’s debut album “Weedkiller” will be released this summer. Her hy-hy-hyperactive songs have already enchanted colleagues like Miley Cyrus. And Adidas fell so in love with the American’s cyberpunk style that she posed for the new Originals campaign. It’s Ashnikkolypse now! And anyone who isn’t swept away dances to their beat.

Daniel Lee – The Duck Weatherman

“Good weather for ducks” is how England paints the sky when it has the tap open again. As the son of a northern English working-class family, Daniel Lee knows better than anyone what fashion from his homeland has to be: not just good-looking. But also to keep you warm, to protect you. As the new head designer at Burberry, he has put this in a nutshell in his first creation – with cozy classics and stylish hot water bottles to go.

Matt Rife – Salmon snack

No, Matt Rife is not part of a social reintegration program where former Abercrombie & Fitch models are thrown onto stand-up stages. The 27-year-old boosted his comedy career when he initially only reluctantly uploaded short clips to TikTok. A few million views dispelled any skepticism: The funniest bundle of joy in the USA at the moment is now touring packed halls and has already produced two specials for YouTube.

Cosima Gadient & Christa Bösch – Destructive courage

Cosima Gadient and Christa Bösch combine traditional craftsmanship with avant-garde design – and brutal methods such as tearing and burning fabric material. This imperfection has become the trademark of her fashion label Ottolinger. Founded in Berlin in 2015, the two Swiss women have already impressed at the Fashion Weeks in New York and Paris and were nominated for the LVMH Prize.

Thurstan Redding – Flashlight figures

In the cosplay scene, we can be heroes and villains just for one day. The aim is not just mere disguise, but the complete embodiment of popular fiction characters. Anyone who dismisses subculture as a herd of nerds will fall silent when they see Thurstan Redding’s pictures: The Hong Kong fashion photographer, who has already worked for Gucci, Chanel and Versace, immortalizes stunning figures in modestly mundane surroundings in the book “Kids of Cosplay”.

Who do we celebrate just as loudly? Rapper Badmómzjay, for example. You can find her interview here, or follow the musician on Instagram.
