Gazosa is the name of the clear, carbonated lemonade that has been produced in Mendrisio since 1883. FACES editor-in-chief Patrick Pierazzoli associates the Swiss specialty not only with culinary delights, but also with fond memories of Ticino.
My first trip to Ticino took almost 20 hours. Although it was Easter, it wasn’t because of the traffic jam, but because me and my friends were out and about on our mopeds. That was when I was fifteen. But it wasn’t just my first big road trip that took me to Switzerland’s sunniest region, there was also only ever one destination for my first trip in my own car, my first romantic weekend with my girlfriend or my first vacation job: Ticino. A sea of beautiful memories connects me with Ticino, and these are now also available to drink north of the Gotthard – bottled in swing-top bottles. Gazosa is the name of the clear, carbonated lemonade that has been produced in Mendrisio since 1883. Gazosa 1883 is the name of the new original, the first Gazosa with natural flavors and no artificial colors. This Ticino specialty is available in eight flavors, from green apple to mandarin, in more and more stores and restaurants. My favorite is bitter orange, although citro mixed with red wine brings back more memories, but that’s another story and only works on the spot.
