Good reasons for and against shared flats

Good reasons for and against shared flats

For:

1. You go on vacation and someone waters your plants, feeds the parrot and takes the Chihuahua for a walk.

2. Rental prices in urban housing.

3. The leftovers from the XXL pizza ordered by your roommate, which help you get over the post-party hunger pangs.

4. The aroma in the kitchen when someone has already made coffee on the following Sunday.

5. Crime scene or sports show, game of life or cooking session – you spend Sunday evening in company without taking off your trainers.

Against:

1. The love life. Your own, that of others and – particularly delicately – relationships between roommates.

2. Allowed is what does not disturb. Scattered dirty laundry, walking naked in the living room and early morning karaoke in the bathroom are more borderline cases.

3. The bathroom in general: constantly occupied!

4. Who owns the flatscreen, who owns the kettle, and who pays for the FACES subscription? Colleagues become tough negotiating partners at the latest when the municipality is dissolved.

5. The initially casual anger over trivialities and quirks that builds up over months into bitter hatred and leads to the termination of friendships that have lasted for years. It’s the little things that kill.
