“I really don’t get long nails. They’re so Edward Scissorhands.” Kelly Clarkson
Street Parade
Two people turn a party into a happening. That’s why the joint lipstick collection from Swiss fashion label Collective Swallow and German beauty brand Uslu Airlines pops so loudly. “Angry Flamingo” and “Hibiscus Blueberry Daiquiri” could just as easily be delicious cocktails instead of colorful lipsticks. Whatever we do with these colors on our lips, it certainly won’t be boring. Uslu Airlines X Collective Swallow, lipsticks from approx. 24, www.usluairlines.com

What works in summer also works in fall. And that doesn’t just apply to gelato or iced coffee, but also to the wet look. Alexander McQueen puts a new stamp on the summery outdoor hairstyle. Coolness is emblazoned thick and bold on this style, which gives turtlenecks and bold statement earrings the space they need. Knead the gel into damp hair and comb with a wide-toothed comb over the head to the nape of the neck. Tie long hair into a knot or a simple, low ponytail. A big plus: lashed down like this, even the strongest fall winds can’t harm us. Sebastian, “Gel Forte”, extra strong hold. 200 ml, approx. 21.-, Hercules Sägemann, handle comb, approx. 28.-
Free space
There is something mystical about negative shots. Anyone who still takes analog photos knows this very well. This is one of the reasons why we are celebrating the Outliner so loudly this season. The second is obvious: instead of struggling to accurately apply the liquid liner to the lash line, we can paint it on freely. There are at least as many variations of this look as there are products to create it. Felt tip, liquid liner, potty product – use whatever feels best in your hand.
Time for heroes
Here the good guys, there the bad guys. However, it is much more difficult to differentiate between them on the beauty shelf. All the better when people like Alf Heller create products that score points for transparency. The Swiss stylist has been navigating the jungle of the beauty industry for over 25 years and knows that effectiveness and efficiency do not have to come at the expense of animals and nature. His hair care products are therefore completely free of nasties, which often makes us hesitate when we look at the labels of other beautifiers. There are no synthetic dyes, sulphates, parabens, silicones, microplastics or PEGs in the shampoos, conditioners and hair masks, which are also made entirely in Switzerland from mountain spring water and Edelweiss extracts. The effect: the hair shines and we glow. It fits. Alf Heller, shampoos, conditioners and masks from approx. 33. available at www.alfhellercosmetics.com.
La bella vita
We don’t really care whether the Chinese or the Italians get to pin the badge for inventing the noodle on their chest. When it comes to make-up, the country on the Mediterranean is certainly one step ahead. The Italian beauty brand Naj Oleari has finally made it over the borders and to us and is now bringing us rapture when it comes to make-up. Highlighters that really make cheeks glow, bronzers that make us look like summer even in the dreariest autumn, and eyeshadow sticks whose colors make us dream of days under the sun easily elicit a sigh or two during our morning beauty ritual.
Neanderthals
Sometimes studying helps you achieve more than just a fancy-sounding specialist title. In the case of Julien Halnaut and Jan-Torben Girault, for example, a friendship that goes beyond university parties and studying together. Together, they founded Quaveman in 2016 – a beauty brand exclusively for men. Their quiver includes cream, wash gel, aftershave, shaving gel and a brand new Hangover Face Mask, which conjures up the traces of even the stormiest flat-sharing party from your face. Together with Swiss laboratories, the former ETH students have developed products that are not only paraben-free, but also ensure that men no longer have to secretly tamper with their girlfriend’s beauty products in the bathroom. Another argument besides the fact that the products are produced in all possible parts of Switzerland? The consistency of the Qaveman shaving cream is reminiscent of the national Moitié-Moitié fondue… Qaveman products are available from approx. 19. over www.quaveman.ch available.
Natural healing
Perms and bleaching, lots of chemicals and even more stress for the hair. While the world was maltreating its hair to the point of giving up in the 80s for the right look, John Masters was already focusing on naturalness back then. First in his New York apartment, which he converted into a salon, then in his first real hairdressing salon in Soho. The company’s own hair care line was then just a formality, and was founded 25 years ago today. Natural cosmetics are no longer exotic on the beauty shelves – but John Masters Organics is one of the regulars.
