Boots are the workhorse of every winter wardrobe – and this season they are the statement piece too. On the fall/winter 2026/27 runways, Chloé, Chanel, Isabel Marant and co. showed boots that either slouch softly or fit like a second skin. Here are the six boot trends you need to know this winter – and how to wear them.
Last updated: October 2026
1. Slouchy Boots: Relaxed Folds

The boho boot is back. Chloé under Chemena Kamali, Isabel Marant, Valentino and Balmain sent boots with soft, deliberately slouched shafts down the runway. The relaxed silhouette also appeared at Balenciaga, Ganni and Stella McCartney – often in soft suede. Chloé showed them in cognac suede and black leather.
How to wear it: With slim jeans or a flowing midi dress. The shaft can fall over your trousers – that is exactly the point.
2. Second Skin: Boots Like a Second Skin

The opposite of slouchy: skin-tight boots in stretch or fine leather that hug the leg. Chanel showed them with its signature cap toe, Toteme kept them classic in black. Altuzarra and Miu Miu also went for the slim shaft. Chanel paired cream, skin-tight boots with a coat in the same shade.
How to wear it: With a short skirt or dress to show off the line. Under a long coat they create an elegant, uninterrupted silhouette.
3. Over-the-Knee Boots: The Higher, the Better

Knee-high is no longer enough for many designers. Chloé, Isabel Marant and Acne Studios showed over-the-knee and thigh-high boots – from cosy lined styles to strictly structured ones. Acne Studios showed them in black with a fur cuff.
How to wear it: With a mini skirt or shorts and thick tights. For a calmer look, wear them with a knit dress that ends just above the boot.
4. Western Boots, but Quiet

The cowboy boot stays, but becomes more understated. Chloé and Celine showed pared-back versions in neutral shades, while Jil Sander paired deliberately worn-in suede boots with trousers. If you like it more playful, Gabriela Hearst offered embroidered styles.
How to wear it: Under wide trousers or with a midi skirt and knitwear – not as a full western look, but as a contrast to a clean outfit.
5. Animal Print: The Wild Side

Leopard, zebra, python: at Isabel Marant, Valentino, Conner Ives and Dries Van Noten, boots became a pattern statement. The trick this season: the prints feel subtle rather than loud – on slim shafts or in muted colours. Isabel Marant showed a whole series of snake-print ankle boots – with jeans, a mini skirt and red trousers.
How to wear it: The boots are the only pattern in the outfit. Add black, camel or grey – done.
6. Suede in Cognac and Brown

The most timeless trend of the season: suede boots in cognac, copper and chocolate brown, seen at Chloé, Dior and TWP, among others. Dior chose cognac suede ankle boots with buckles. They work perfectly with this winter’s earthy coat colours.
How to wear it: Tone on tone with a camel coat or as a warm contrast to grey and navy. Tip: waterproof them before the first snow.
