Patience pays off, but sometimes you don’t need it at all. Our May cover model Ajah Angau Jok managed to become a sought-after catwalk and campaign model for big names like Chanel, Prada and Saint Laurent in three short years. On our cover, she wears a look by Indian designer Naeem Khan.

What a CV: Ajah Angau Jok can just make a note of the Chanel Métiers d’Art. This sits well alongside brands such as Alaïa, Prada and Saint Laurent, for whom she has already modeled. But Ajah is not taking off, even if the current course of her career would allow her to. “I believe in consistency, the right time and trusting that what is meant for me will develop all by itself,” she told V Magazine.

Ajah was born in South Sudan and grew up in Nigeria. Her interest in fashion started early. She wrote the name Saint Laurent in her notebook after seeing one of the label’s shows online as a teenager, as she told V Magazine. She then watched every Saint Laurent show and imagined herself wearing the clothes. If that isn’t a successful example of positive manifestation: She walked her first runway show for Saint Laurent’s spring/summer 2023 collection at Paris Fashion Week.

Ajah is now a permanent fixture at fashion weeks in Paris, Milan, London and New York. In addition to Saint Laurent, Ajah’s employers also include other big names. She has already walked for Chanel, Bottega Veneta, Ralph Lauren, Missoni and Marni, among others. While many models find their niche and perhaps their strengths lie more on the catwalk or in editorials, Ajah masters both equally well. In addition to the catwalk, she can be found in magazines such as Re-Edition, Revue and AnOther or in campaigns and lookbooks for Prada, Carolina Herrera, Ayede and DeMellier London – the latter of which attentive FACES readers were able to discover with us last spring.
