FACES Trend Report: The top 13 trends for fall/winter 2026/27

Outerwear needs space for the fall/winter 2026/27 season. That’s right. A lot. Space. At Loewe and Louis Vuitton, coats are increasing in volume. Cropped jackets are back, while shearling – seen at Ulla Johnson and Diesel – brings texture and warmth. At Dior and Valentino, leather is softened with extensive fur trims.

Layering explodes at Rabanne and Acne – practical, expressive and precisely calculated. Scarves are generously proportioned because size matters. Velvet is back and there is no way around peplum.

Isabel Marant brings versatility with reversible pieces. And then there’s the blue color palette – unlike responsibility, you can’t just walk away from it. Hermès plays ironically with functional bags and shows that: Details are expression, not just function.

In summary, the collections show a new awareness of the reality of winter, in which protection from the elements and personal expression are no longer thought of separately.

Here are our 13 top trends that will shape fall/winter 2026/27:

1. XXL Coat

Louis Vuitton

Oversized, sculptural coats dominated the runways this season. Volume replaces proportion, outerwear becomes a look. These coats are already there, even if you’re ten minutes late. And yes, you might have to walk through the door sideways.

2. cropped jackets

Isabel Marant – always at the height of her price.

Is there more to come? No. We love half-jackets. The runways were obsessed with cropped jackets, whether in leather, tweed or denim. At Isabel Marant, a denim jacket becomes reversible and transforms into red quilted satin.

3. wrap-up

Chloé

Capes, cocoon coats and sculptural draping: that is construction. Wrapped, folded, sophisticated silhouettes create volumes with a deliberately eccentric character.

4. shearling mood

Ann Demeulemeester

If it looks like a sheep and smells like an SChaf, it probably is one. But in this case, it’s a very chic dead sheep. Shearling shows its softer side: subtle colors, warmth, lightness, luxury.

5. leather & fur trims

Dior

Luxury leather and completely oversized fur trimmings in one look, subtlety is not an issue here. If that’s your vibe, you better learn how to pronounce Louis Roederer properly at the bar fast.

6. velvet

Vicotria Bakcham

Velvet returns unapologetically for the fall/winter 2026/27 season. Rich, controlled and impossible to ignore. Draped, sculpted and cut close to the body, it creates depth, movement and subtle seduction, all without accessories. Velvet has its own aura. This is the fabric that brings you Cartier instead of Victoria’s Secret.

7. peplum

Dior

Peplum has been trying to come back like an unwanted cheating ex for seasons. This time, however, it’s trying harder. Shifted, off-center, built into jackets and hybrid silhouettes. Not the polite Victorian version – less predictable, more disruptive, but still tasteful.

8. extended sleeves

Sportmax

Sleeves just don’t stop where they should this season. Deliberately elongated, dragging, dipping and completely committed to impracticality

From left: Sacai, Dries Van Noten, Prada

9. creative layering

Rabanne

What is this?! What’s happening here? Layering without rules?! Shirts over knits, skirts over pants, all at the same time. If it doesn’t send a chameleon into an identity crisis, you’ve done it wrong.

From the left: Zankov, Acne, Zomer

10th Sporty Mix

Carpenter

“I actually wanted to go to the gym… but then I didn’t.” Everyday pieces combined with sporty elements: full intention, zero realization. Effort implied, never delivered. We feel personally attacked.

11. photoprint

Jean Paul Gauliter

Hold my Espresso Martini – we need a skirt with someone else’s face on it. Photo prints are scaled, placed and integrated into the clothes and try very, very hard – oh so very hard – to achieve the Galliano Dior Newsprint moment.

From left: Moscino, Dries Van Noten, Acne

12. XXL Scarf

Stella McCartney

The delusions of grandeur are up to our necks. The scarf almost needs its own zip code for the fall/winter 2026/27 season.

Color forecast:

13. blue

Chanel

Nothing subtle here: Striking blue comes at just the right time, after the Carolyn Bessette Kennedy effect briefly drove us back to beige, black and hair bands.

And the definitive shoe for fall/winter 2026/27

Onitsuka Tiger puts a heel on the iconic Mexico 66, a kitten heel hybrid between sneaker and slingback. Fashion insiders are thrilled. Purists are not.

Onitsuka Tiger

The fall/winter 2026/27 collections remind us of something simple and honest: staying warm and protecting ourselves from the elements is a basic human need. For too many seasons, designers have ignored this and shown collections that were beautiful and creative. But also rarely thought beyond the runway. For those who prioritize fashion, this is a real dilemma.

This season, the art, emotion and essence of fashion have not been lost. But it seems more conscious. Underneath there is still exaggeration, irony and occasional decadence. The trends are vibrant, energetic and yet cosy, showing that fashion can entertain, provoke and perform while still fulfilling the basic purpose of clothing.
