Pietro Sassi reveals what is written on Diane von Fürstenberg’s face.
It was the American presidential family’s Christmas card from 2009. People have studied this card, everyone has seen it and everyone has seen that First Lady Michelle Obama showed taste with her wrap dress. A 35-year-old dress. Only 35 years ago, the designer had worn it herself and advertised it herself, because there was no money for models. The designer is Diane von Fürstenberg and one of these sophisticated dresses now hangs in the Metropolitan Museum in New York. The Belgian-born designer has been at the top of her game for 40 years, dressing women in elegant, feminine and uncomplicated fashion. Whereby uncomplicated is the most important attribute, for the simple reason that a strong woman never allows herself to be subjugated. Never become a victim of vanity. And the strength of a woman is what von Fürstenberg is all about. She herself is a “voyageur”, as she says, a globetrotter who speaks sentences that have more content than consonants and appears with a self-assurance that seems to explain a lot. She has been married to media mogul Barry Diller, the love of her life, since 2011, although they live separately. Von Fürstenberg admits that this life is unconventional, but adds: “I was never conventional.”
1. the fashion industry is entertaining. All the more perseverance is needed if you want to hold your own in it. You can read a person’s stamina from the wrinkles on their forehead: If they are strong, i.e. deep, long and criss-crossed, this also indicates mental stamina. Whereas people with interrupted forehead lines need more time to achieve their goals and work towards them in stages.
2 Diane von Fürstenberg’s job crease is very pronounced, which shows her talent for placement. However, as she is interrupted at the top, it can also be said that the 56-year-old is not fully exploiting her potential. When asked about her work ethic alone, the designer replies: “Solitude is the most important thing for me in the creative process, and yes, also for self-discovery.”
3. in composition to the job crease is the decision crease, which is also striking: the CFDA President (Council of Fashion Designers of America) does not need to be told how to do something, she decides for herself.
4. the bridge of her nose is broad in relation to her petite face, which indicates a high resilience. With two labels of her own, an accessories and cosmetics line, her own home shopping business and various additional projects, it’s kind of inevitable.
5 Here we see the fold of the soul. It indicates a stroke of fate, or even trauma if it is very severe. The following applies: if the line is drawn through, the past is complete; if it is not, there may be broken pieces lying around that need to be swept up. Which won’t happen with Diane von Fürstenberg – as the owner of a memory that can be manipulated, she only remembers the good times.
6. a designer who has been at the top of the fashion industry for more than half her life without ever having studied design must be a perfectionist. You can recognize a perfectionist by the distance from the brow to the eye – if it is the largest on the outside, as here, botching is considered a mortal sin.
7 The more prominent the eyes, the more curious the person is. Deep-set eyes, on the other hand, are a sign of mistrust. Diane von Fürstenberg likes to listen to stories, but just because she likes to hear them doesn’t mean she believes them.
