Japan is canceled. Never mind, we can experience Far Eastern design in Switzerland. For example in the new Art House Basel, a hotel that celebrates Japanese minimalism in its 33 rooms and suites and gives it an upgrade with urban street art and natural materials. Works of art from the neighboring Colab Gallery can be found throughout the hotel, making Basel’s latest hotel addition a playground for art lovers and design enthusiasts. Located in Basel’s old town, Art House Basel is also the ideal starting point for travelers visiting the city on the Rhine. If you’re lucky (and have the right amount of money), book one of the rooms with a terrace and a view of the Steinenbachgässlein, although the orientation towards the Steinenvorstadt doesn’t detract from your stay here. Art House Basel, Steinenvorstadt 42, 4051 Basel, Switzerland, double room from approx. 189.- per night, www.arthousebasel.ch
Wooden
We let ourselves be inspired. Architects who devote their attention to wood and use it to construct buildings that we only see in
science fiction films. The idea behind it: To make better use of resources in the construction industry and increasingly do without cement, whose production causes around eight percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. The book “Out of the Woods” shows 30 building projects that do things better and use innovative techniques to create new living spaces that are not only pleasing to the eye, but also to the environment. Design, “Out of the Woods”, ca. 68.-
Homebound
Corona is keeping us all in check – and the tourist regions in particular. The travel platform Ebookers has asked around in Switzerland and identified the regions that are currently most popular with Swiss travelers. In fact, the notorious Röstigraben is emerging among the Swiss: The German-speaking Swiss now travel mainly to Graubünden, while the French-speaking Swiss prefer to spend their vacations in Valais or the Bernese Oberland.
